I'm an activist for (a) an end to prohibition and (b) increased nuclear energy capacity. I often argue about climate change, but not as vociferously and actually do so to further my staunchly pro-nuclear and nationalist agenda rather than out of concern for the environment (although am concerned).
I seek to sterilize. Crushing prohibition and becoming less reliant on foreign oil would do a great deal to rid the Earth of abomination.
If you were a dictator, what would you immediately crush or implement?
Avoid debating other posters. Let people state what they're an activist for without any opposition.
What do you try to indoctrinate friends and family with? Avoid links, if that's all right. Put it in your own words as briefly as possible. |

When I lived in DC, I pounded the pavement for the Human Rights Campaign, which was miserable, thankless work, but I did it for almost a year anyway. I've also been actively involved with Planned Parenthood, up until I came to Korea. And I used to work in a rape crisis center. And I donate at least 20 bucks to Special Olympics every year.
I'm an advocate for the underdog, generally. |

Through former work I was a daily advocate for kids with behavioural, emotional and social dysfunctions. I liked the kids because I felt they were mostly misunderstood and for the most part were a product of their environment so any positive encouragement I could give them felt like a step in the right direction. Of all the hundreds of kids I've counselled I would say about 3-5(2 of the kids are still in elementary school without intensive support) turned out to be productive members of society. Some were so far gone by the time I saw them that palative care was the only step one could take with them.
As a hobby though I've been involved with Save Darfur ralleys, Youth Criminal Justice policy, and I'm in the process of getting the government to try and recognize sex crimes with the same degree as murder--which will be a huge up hill battle as long as more men are law makers than female law makers(this is not a shot at men in general but the laws were created years ago by some men who felt that sex crimes were not to be deemed in the same light as murder when sex crimes have just the same amount of death to them as murder)
As a lifestyle I've been a green person for a while. Although PETA can kiss my beautiful buttucks for all I care--they're a terrorist organization right up there with Al Queda. I have been car free for 2 1/2 years, I have a more vegetarian diet--still eat the odd meat and I'm becoming more of a fan of goat, lamb, rabbit and less chicken and pig--i don't really eat cow anymore--my energy consumption is low because I don't really use AC in the summer(only on those extremely hot days) and it's also low because I have so many windows in my apartment that lights are off except at night. I unplug my computer and attachments when I'm not using them and if I could buy into alternative energy sources I would like solar, wind, tidal wave technology.
So over all I'm pretty much a living activitist. My friends get tired of hearing though about my push for youth justice reforms and policy makeovers. Overall though I do surround my being with people who live and walk what they preach so for the most part they're not too tired of the 'preachy' green lifestyle nor are they too tired of the 'save darfur' speaches. |

Good topic.
Assuming I'm in the US, I'd legalize all drugs, remove a lot of needless regulation from the health care and education industries and begin a massive voucher campaign for both of them, and require all women under 150 lb. and 35 years old to wear no panties or bra on Thursdays. |

wtf... in the U.S., women already have more rights than men do. the laws are already anti-male and rape is whatever a woman says it is. and you're gonna try to put it on the same level as murder? pleeassse...
men don't have a roe v. wade or a VAWA.
i'm an activist for equal rights.
total equality across the board.
i want men to be able to opt out of parenthood -- just like women... even after the baby's born a woman can take it to a fire station to drop it off there -- no questions asked.
a man, if he is lied to ("you don't have to use a condom because i can't get pregnant", "no condom needed, i'm on the pill") and forced into being a father -- the woman is not guilty of any crime, yet the man will be forced to pay child support.
look what happened at duke univ... one chick cries rape and everyone assumed the lacrosse team was guilty. millions of dollars spent trying to prove their innocence, finally it's proved... and the chick who caused alll this trouble -- what happened? nothing...
the laws in the US are anti-male.
so again, i am an activist for equal rights for all people. did you know women pay less for their life insurance premiums than men? it's the only form of discrimination allowed. there can be plenty of evidence that says whites while outlive blacks -- but you can't overcharge premiums for blacks --- but you can overcharge men. is that right? why not discriminate in everyway the insurance co. actuaries can find out --- or not discriminate at all?
what about women who kill their children as opposed to men who kill their children? why is it a man is seen as 'crazy and violent' whereas a woman is seen as 'emotional and distressed'? same thing with adults who have sex with minors (like school teachers -- diff. reactions when it's a male teacher from a female teacher).
blah blah blah
i need to get back to work |

I try to talk against Bush's war in Iraq every chance I get. Hey, maybe this is another chance.
It's bad for America. End this thing. End it now. |

Was an activist of sorts in my younger years, but not at present. Had a foster kitten in the Philippines a couple of years ago, and he's now doing well in a permanent home. Helped two cats stay out of the "doubutsu aigo centers" in Japan, and they got adopted too. Hope to help that "Lonely Lifetime" group (www.lonelylifetime.com) out in some way, possibly a few months from now. |

If I were a dictator I would advocate growing more Beans. I agree with the man who said:
"So let us strive to produce glorious bounty of bean through the pioneering agricultural achievements discovered through the application of scientific Bolshevism, comrades, and undergo a rigorous program of self-criticism that identifies backward thought and purges it relentlessly as all counterrevolutionary manifestations must be purged, so that the proletariat need never wonder who tooted, but know instinctively that he, and thus the nation, have tooted, are tooting now, and will gloriously toot so that the dictatorship of the proletariat will never die!" |

I'm fairly lethargic, so can't claim to be any kind of activist.
But occasionally donate to select charities.
Cancer Research (father died of cancer,) Veteran's causes (I'm a vet,)
and I bought an overpriced USA flag made by disabled folks.
Also got the Adopt a Tiger program for my daughter for Christmas.
She's a Jehovah's Witness and doesn't really acknowledge holiday gifts. |

Don't be so modest. You've also done some great anti-mod activism lately. I would have posted a smiley-face in response, if the thread in question (the anti-Otis one) hadn't been locked so fast. |
