DVD bang questions:

1. How much do they generally charge if I want to watch my own DVDs?
2. Do they have region-free DVD players (some of my DVDs are from the U.S.)?
3. Are they open 24-7?
4. Are the couches really gross? Sad

Is there anywhere else to watch DVDs, like a public library or something?

1. I don't know about your own DVDs, don't think it would be a problem, but i've paid from 12,000 to 18,000 to watch their movies. Don't think they'll give you a discount.

2. Don't know.

3. I think, but not sure.

4. The couches are covered with vinyl or plastic so they can be (i assume) cleaned after use.

You should be aware that DVD Bangs are basically places for couples to go and have some privacy. As my friend described his experience, he has never been in a DVD bang and not came...

Funny story. Another friend of mine was unaware of the customs of DVD Bangs when he first showed up here. He went with a girl and a guy to watch a movie. On their way in the girl went to the bathroom and the 2 guys walked in together. The employees mouths dropped in surprise. Then the girl walks in in a minute and the employee is even more shocked.

Anyway don't know if you have a TV or not, but I think it would just be cheaper to buy a DVD player.

I know what DVD bangs are usually used for but I need someplace where I can watch DVDs from regions 1, 2 and 3. 12,000-18,000 seems pretty steep, is that for 2 hours?

That's however long it takes to finish the movie.

You might want to check out this website i just found
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks

I've never tried this but it looks like you can make just about any dvd player region free.

DVD bangs are usually 6,000 to 7,000 won per person, and if you go there often, the 10th or 12th visit is free.

You should ask the staff if their players are region free. I believe most of the places use combo VCR/DVD players, and I know that the Samsung models tend to be region free except they cannot play PAL discs from Europe (though I could be wrong about that, too).

I've got a DVD player I haven't used for almost a year. I'd probably sell it to you.

Yeah, good site. I got 2 of my dvd players macro and region free with the remote hacks. But I can't find a hack for the one I have in my living room. Mad With Daemon Tools, the virtual cd/dvd drive, you can pick regions. Right click the icon on the bottom right corner, then pick (virtual cd/dvd drive>dvd>set dvd paramenters>and then, it gives you an option to choose dvd regions 1 through 8 Cool.

I am having a hard time finding Daemon Tools for download without the whenusave program(the whenusave is annoying as hell and hard to uninstall). I like the old Daemon better, where it is red or green, there seems to be a new version and I don't know how to use it.

I've never bought a region-free player that required firmware, as I didn't want to bother.

Plus many players cannot properly do the PAL-to-NTSC conversion, or do not have progressive scan for PAL as they do for NTSC.

I'm eyeing a new DVD player with upscaling ability.

if you have a laptop pc then you can download vlc player and it plays all dvds from any region....its awesome!!!

i havent heard of anyone taking their own dvds to a dvd bang...i know a lot of people who use it for "privacy" or who just want to crash out somewhere when they are away for the weekend..... Wink

a guy i know had to live with his boss for a year and to get away occasionally he would find the longest movie in a dvd bang and just sleep through it... Smile

Most DVD players can be made region-free by going into the menu and typing a few numbers on the remote. Many of these DVD players are as little as 50,000won.

Personally, I can't conceive how anyone gets by in Korea without a home PC, which will play all DVD regions of course as well as download your favorite programs/movies and get you online.

A functional PC can be bought for a quarter of 1 months pay. Well worth it.

Sorry dude, but I disagree, MANY, not most, DVD players can be made region free via remote control hack. Some cannot handle the PAL-to-NTSC conversion so while you can watch DVDs from the U.S., South America or Japan, the same won't hold true for DVDs from Europe, certain Asian countries like Thailand and Australia.

And don't buy the cheapo DVD players, they'll break within a year.
