The ROK government ought to hand over negotiations to the North Koreans. That government is masterful in getting so much for giving up so little. I can imagine some DPRK general discussing border issues with his ROK counterpart right now and doing everything he can to bite his tongue and not scream out:

"WTF! Dude! You south idiots have totally f*cked up this Taliban thing! Haven't you learned anything from 50+ years of negotiating with us?!"

Koda Shosei, in 2004, rode a public bus into Iraq just for kicks.

Iraqi insurgents cut his head off.

Koizumi said that the Self-Defence Forces would not withdraw or negotiate with the insurgents / terrorists.

Japanese don't tend to negotiate - unlike, say, the Chinese.

Japanese will not negotiate with people they don't respect or at least consider to be on equal footing. However, they will negotiate in business matters and they are masters are getting what they want (without making concessions).

Japanese will not negotiate with idiots to save their own who acted like idiots because to do so would also make them look like idiots.

The Korean government is showing their true colors now, they are being such *beep*'s asking that America help persuade Afghanistan to give into terrorists demands so that these idiot Christians could go home. How many americans were kidnapped and beheaded because america wouldint give into terrorism. Why does korea think we would change our policy for them? just send in some special forces and whipe out all of the terrorists. use this as a lesson to not let any missionaries into that country.

I hope for 2 things.

#1 The Koreans can come home unharmed.

#2 I hope they are punished hard. Jail time sounds sufficient.

They have basically aided terrorists because they are too thick to listen to rules. That is Korean culture.

A young Japanese backpacker named Shosei Koda was relieved of his head by Iraqi insurgents wanting the Japanese to remove their troops from Iraq and, of course, the Japanese wouldn't.

And they didn't appeal to "the international community" to be "lenient" in its dealings with terrorist organizations, nor blame it all on America and hold flag burning demonstrations to vent frustration and displace the blame. They maintained their dignity.

BTW, I'm not a hogwan teacher. I'm not even in Korea. So you know what you can do with your stupid little eye roll don't ya?

As a matter of a fact, I've sat at plenty of negotiation tables and with people from all over the world. Oh and when I was in Korea I got a hell of a lot more out of my employers than all of my Korea lifer colleagues and 5 plus year veterans.

You forgot to add who's also sat at plenty of negotiation tables and with people from all over the world. Oh and when I was in Korea I got a hell of a lot more out of my employers than all of my Korea lifer colleagues and 5 plus year veterans.

Just a heads up, negotiating a new contract at ECC hardly qualifies one as some kind of expert on Japanese negotiating strategies and tactics. Yeah, we've all read Musashi and Sun Tzu, but come on, an extra 100K won a month isn't big-league negotiating: it's called asking for a raise.
