al Qaeda is an idea
hence it will never die
fully "independent cells" with no intercommunication AT ANY POINT is not the same organization, except in terms of ideology, which is shared indirectly
the Bush administration was very happy to latch on and extend the concept of al Qaeda (from its traceable "semi-autonomous" origins) to provide a permanent bogeyman for their right wing agenda |

It's true.
And I don't think the neo-con kool-ade drinkers here honestly believe in the "The Threat To Society" they claim is there. They just believe in the social agenda the fear of it is helping them achieve. |

The 9-11 attacks cost the US between 100 and two trillion dollars of damage.
They took out trillions of dollars of wealth out the the US stock market . And they nearly bankrupted the US airline industry. and led to thousands of people losing their jobs
They also tipped the US economy into recession .
They certainly were a threat to the US way of life.
A few of them would make it impossible for the to operate as a nation. |

It is both an organization and an idea.
and the biggest cause of the idea is that mideast regimes and elties teach hate and incite violence. and it would be close to dead if mideast regimes decided to kill those who support it like they they do to their dissidents.

There in fact is communication and their is the sharing of expertise. and their are member of the main branch of the group that are sent out to organize cells and teach others how to be terrorists.
Most of these "close to independent cells" - (post corrected ) are in fact Kramer Jihadists who usually don't do much damage.
The big attacks like 9-11 require a lot more expertise and planning. And it is just a coincidence since the war on terror there have been no large attacks on US soil?

That is right it is all Bushs fault. I am sure he was real happy that the US went into recession after 9-11 and the stock market lost thousands of points. He is real happy about the debt that it caused.
I wonder if you aren't? |

There is a reason for Gitmo and one of them is that many of the those imprisoned there could not be convicted in a US court.
If that makes you feel bad remember
It was also the opinion of the Clinton administration that the US could not convict Bin Laden in a US court in 1996 and that is why he was allowed to go to the Sudan. (According to Sandi Burger The US wanted Saudi Arabia to take him and just to chop his head off without any real tria but the Saudi's didn't want him eitherl ) Anyway Osama was allowed to go from the Sudan to Afghanistan and we all know how that turned out.
By the way I suppose there wasn't enough evidence to convict the Ayatollah Khomeni when he lived in France, even though the US had a good idea about what he was about. And so he was allowed to go to Iran.
Question would the US be better off today if the US had assassinated Khomeni or thrown him in a secret prison somewhere before he came to power?
Last for the record Gitmo is a lot nicer than the prisons in Afghanistan or the middle east. One of the items on the menu there (no joke) is Tandoori Chicken and Nan.
