I will be going to Tokyo for about 4 days. The 18th of August till the 22nd. I have a 600 dollar flight credit, so It makes the 600 round trip price from seoul much more bearable. I am planning my itinerary and would love to hear from those of you who have been to tokyo. What you recommend what you don't etcetera. I plan to stay my first night in shinjuku and party it up, and then stay at a capsule "coffin" hotel just for shits and giggles. The second night i may go to a hostel in asakusa called "Khaosan Tokyo" it is much cheaper than hostels located in central tokyo. Asakusa is the more traditional area of tokyo.
Give me some more ideas! Where have you been in Tokyo that you really enjoyed? |

go to roppongi instead of shinjuku to party it up.
yoyogi park is full of activity on weekend afternoons. Fun to people-watch there. In contrast, I found ueno park to be on the duller side (but it has sites such as museums and the like).
Harajuku is fun to walk around, and not because of the people dressing up (although nothing wrong with them either).
If the weather is clear, go to the top of the Tokyo metro building in shinjuku.
Most of the budget places are in asakusa. Not a bad area, but pretty quiet at night. |

i've just booked for 2 nights in a capsule, hotel new gyominso - its in asakusa, and 3000 a night. one of the few that welcomed female guests.
so excited!! |

Where do you live?
I was in Kichijoji and Nakano for nearly 5 years.
You're actually leaving Tokyo for Seoul - what on earth for! 
I really miss Tokyo and hope to get back to the Kichijoji / Chuo sen area again in the next year or two.
As for "partying it up", you're better off in Rappongi or Shibuya. Shinjuku has pubs but doesn't have the choices that a place like Rappongi does. I also recommend you check out Rappongi for pubs / clubs / food / meeting other people both local and foreign. |

I live in Itabashi-ku, quite close to Ikebukuro. Been around that general area for seven years....enough is enough! It is really hard to leave but I just have that Korea itch to scratch. Too comfortable here, need to feel that challenge again.
For the OP...Roppongi is like Blackpool without the beaches, (if you are British that will mean something to you). I think it is hit and miss, sometimes a great atmosphere and othertimes...not. Shibuya is better if you can deal with the mega crowds.
Many places in Roppongi have drink deals for women. (Can't remember if OP is male or female). Thursday night you can guzzle champers free...all evening. |
