Mith while those might admirable qualities how would that make them dangerous to the enemies the US now faces? It might make them a good leader overall but why would the characteristics you mentioned make them dangerous?

They might be good leaders overall - but that isn't the question.

Wisdom might be a necessary quality but it isn't always it sufficient.

1 - they won't spend any unnecessary energy making new enemies
2 - they're smart and cool enough to plan long-term strategy as well as humble enough to listen well to the people actually in the field and capable of changing strategy as the need arises without worrying about loss of face or strict adherence to an agenda

Or perhaps they would fail to recognize the enemy that is out there .

As for the two posters you mentioned both are smart and well informed but what tells you that they are more informed than some of the others on the list?

As for a strict adherence to an agenda I haven't seen either make a big change in their politics on any subject since they have been on this board.

edit:
At any rate both would make decent PEACE TIME leaders IMHO.

There was a civil war general in the civil war with the qualities you mentioned above his name was George B. McClellan. He wasn't very sucessful.

General Sherman was very different from your description above. On the other hand he was a lot more sucessful .

Since they're the type to take the considerations of others into the equation (which includes you), I suspect that they would be quite good at recognizing what's out there.

BTW, one person that I would have voted for over OTOH is Teufelswacht.

The other most dangerous thread seems to have been deleted so really this thread doesn't matter any more.
