There has been less rain this year than the previous two summers, not sure why you are complaining...
FYI: August normally has the second most precipitation, less than the heaviest in July. Approx monthly precip in Seoul http://www.kma.go.kr/intro.html

It is over, this rain isn't associated with the monsoonal front...as we are now under the influence of tropical high pressure systems..
thunderstorms are a feature of august...true it might rain a few days but it won't be in most cases all day(excepting in cases of typhhon) but will be a 30-60 minute flash of rain.... |

Rain's a helluva lot better than a sauna. I hope it rains until fall, but then I live on a hill so I don't have to worry about flooding. |

The monsoon season and the typhoon season are two different things. The monsoon season this year...well...all I can say is "WHAT monsoon season?????" I never even had to break out my umbrealla!
As for typhoons, I had a look at the weather map and it could be an interesting season!!! |

yep... the origin and character of the rain differs
Monsoon rains of mid-June to mid-July: straight down, without wind, for hours at a time monotonously
Middle of summer rains from mid-July to mid-August: intermittent clouds from asia mainland dump and the edge of tropical fronts from the south pacific dump, and where they meet, lightning storms, areas and days of sunshine, this period characterized by a relentless heat and when it rains it comes and goes in showers of varying length.
Typhoon rains of mid-August to mid-September: lots of wind, tropical systems hit the peninsula directly, strong, passing through, distinct start and stop times.

5 of the last 7 days were sunny and beautiful here on the south coast, including yesterday! (despite clouds and thunderstorms int he middle of the peninsula). |

I was thinking the exact same thing as it poured rain yesterday, all night, and then this morning. Then I went outside. The street outside my apartment is flooded. Not just with water and mud, but with pretty good sized rocks. There are people out with shovels all over the place trying to put the mud back from wherever it came from.
Which...made me think of this....mud slide. I'm on the side of a mountain. I sure hope that there isn't a mudslide that takes out my building. Does Korea get mudslides? |

Yeah, i've been watching the weather and it looks like, until today the south wasnt getting rain... but im in the north/east sea area and it hasnt been sunny since Wednesday...
It is kinda funny that 1/3 the population of Seoul is here to do the beach thing but they're all just getting wet. |
