While many issues are debated on this board, it seems homosexuality is taboo. Calling Koreans fools, sexist, ignorant, racist and backwards seems OK, but mentioning homophobia is not.
So, I wonder, how many people here are homophobic. |

i'll defend gay people to the death because their lifestyle really is not that outlandish, strange or scandalous.
however i clicked #3 because i really am repulsed by the idea of kissing a dude. just a personal instinctual reaction. |

I honestly don't care about peoples sexuality and never really think about it.
But I do think that gay people would be a little miffed if everyone was as indifferent as me. Something tells me the the "so what?" reaction isn't what gay people really want. |

indeed. i just get bored by the idea of talking about someone's sexual practices unless it's a close friend who is seeking advice.
there is a legitimacy to politicizing gayness if you're in an environment where gay folks get treated poorly, but i think that kind of stuff is pretty isolated to crosslicker havens and other anomalies. |

I am quite adverse to sleeping with a lady over 200 pounds or over the age of 40 (there could always be an exception though). There is nothing wrong with people thinking what you do is disgusting, as if they didn't have that right, you wouldn't have the right to do it either. It does not make them homophobic at all. Homophobia is actively trying to stop you from doing it when it doesn't affect them. |

How can there not be a point to always politicizing this issue?
Gay people are denied the rights that all non-gays enjoy. The right to marry, spend the dying days with your loved one in the hospital, adopt children together, share health insurance....
If these rights were denied to a person based on skin color, religion, place of birth, etc... it would be a different story. |

I have no problem with people who are gay and gay marriage is just fine by me. But at the same time I don't think that faggots and dykes are sacred cows to be celebrated and honoured and held beyond any possible ridicule. I'm sure that I've made comments that some would criticise as homophobic when they were really just meant as a humorous contrast with conventional standars. |

I agree, but your poll up top has nothing to do with gay rights. Homophobia and being for gay rights are not mutually exclusive. Homophobia is also not a very specific term, and could use more detail. Read my post before this. |

I don't think homophobia has to include "actively trying to stop it." I think being cruel, derisive and judgemental certainly qualifies (and I've seen plenty of it, quite openly, on this board.) |

You're right. I was including that, but should have stated that. |

Yes, I am defining homophobia as Kermo did. I'm not talking the KKK of homophobia. |

I've got no problem with gays, but I'm more than a little uncomfortable when they hit on me. Especially those huge Argonaut types. Don't they have a gaydar wtf... |

I don't really have anything against gays either, except sometimes when lesbians hit on me it is a little creepy. |

I love that most straight people can't say "Gay people are okay with me" without adding "as long as they don't hit on me." As if assuring everyone else that they are most certainly not gay. Just because you're fine with the existence of gay people doesn't mean you are gay! Stop being so defensive, people! |
