Well that would be a different situation, as you wouldn't be going out with that person. If you are going out with them(for a significant period of time) but won't show them to your family then you are at least not being nice. Maybe snob is too strong a word.

I don't think this woman is as bad as you portray. And she does care about this man |
Maybe she does but she should be saying to herself " I love this man, hes awesome, and everybody will come to see that about him despite the way he speaks" |

Good point!
Just because his way of speaking is a problem for her doesn't mean that other people are going to look down on him.
I come from Yorkshire in Nothern England where people have a very broad accent and the dialect and grammar used is far from standard. 'T's are not pronounced and articles are routinely omitted.
"Puh Kehhle on, Luv" (Put on the kettle, Love).
I would think someone was being a snob if they were embarrassed by the way someone from Yorkshire spoke.
If she can't get past it she should just end the relationship instead of trying to get him to speak 'proper' English. I can't help feeling though it would be more her loss then his. |

Yorkshiremen are dead sexy. My last string of boyfriends have all been Northern. My next one will be a Lancastrian (forgive me.)
However, the way they sound to me will be very different to the way a Londoner hears them.
Most American accents from The South are perceived as rather backward and hickish, but outside America it might even be charming. |

A yorkshire accent is fairly well recieved in the UK. It's not considered unattractive unlike, say, a Brummie accent. And yes, I know that from personal obersation and from reading some linguistic research. |

I've heard that Scots are considered the most trustworthy over the phone but I can't remember what the least trustworthy was. |

I love Scottish accents and anything from the north of England come to think of it, with the possible exception of scouse. I do love Liverpool though. Brummies accents are pretty bad although I suppose they are midlands. |
