Quick story
Bought an iriver clix MP3 player on Saturday. It broke that night.
Got the original replaced today. Replacement broke 30 minutes ago.
Phoned customer service. They can't speak any English. I know if i want to speak to the Korean service centre i should speak in Korean but for the love of god you'd expect the company headquarters to have at least one English speaker in their midst.
I wish i'd bought a Sony. |

Would you expect a US/Canadian/UK etc company to have a Korean or Korean speaking person working at their HQ??? |

Yeah, I love my D2. I also have the SDHC 8GB card so 12GB is plenty for me. I have several full-length movies, numerous tv shows, plus photos and of course music and I still have about 3GBs tp spare. The touch screen takes some getting used to but I like it. |

I don't see the point of peering at a tiny screen to watch a movie. |

you don't have to watch a movie
watch your favorite sitcom or music videos while you commute to work on the subway.
or if you have dmb (I have the cowon d2 with DMB) watch the latest news and weather while you ride the subway/bus. |

You don't sit in your house and watch movies on your D2. That's kinda silly. The D2 is a highly portable PMP that despite it's size, has a whopping 16 million color screen. It's not for everyone and it isn't my prefered movie watching venue, but for people who desire extreme portability in a small package, the D2 is very hard to beat. |

For a company that claims itself to be so identifiable in the international market, yeah, I would expect at least one english speaker.
Then again, isn't iriver the company that took out an ad in Korean newspapers implying that Korean people who buy ipods are traitors to the national Taekukgi Korean warrior spirit?
Why would you buy from such a lame company to begin with? |

Actually, yes - I kind of would. I'm Canadian and have worked for a few companies. In the customer service departments, employees had a list of other employees and their extension numbers who could speak different languages. If they weren't available, or we didn't have an employee who spoke the specific language, we got the customer's phone number, and called them back with an interpreter (from a service we used.)
OP - I have an I-River MP3 that's worked out really well for the last couple years. You might have some success if you visit their website. |

The D2 is quite nice but I still prefer PMP's with the 4.3'' screen.
Like the Cowon Q5.....beauty...
Or the i-Station Netforce for the man who wants everything including internet......

I have been blown away by the Iriver customer service here in Korea. Have a couple of friends with faulty players, we took them to the service center in Coex, and 1-2 hours later it was fixed. Sure, it was probably only firmware fixes, but never seen that quick service anywhere else, and I have been working in the industry for 10 years. If your Ipod breaks down, your looking at weeks, not hours....
I think you just got some bad luck with yours mate...
Nothing beats Ipod for crap customer service and ridiculous faults and breakdowns, and the Korean companies seem to be quite good at what they do. Myself, I went for a D2 as well, and I will never ever go back to Apple products. |

I've got a fairly dated RCA Lyra 2780. Never had a serious problem. It freezes up from time to time, kinda like a computer, but reboot and all is well again. Use it to and from work almost every day.
In a few days, I'll have an Archos 504. That'll be nice. Wouldn't buy a PMP here in Korea. Too pricey and not many brands to choose from, are there? I've never seen Archos or Creative Labs stuff here, but I haven't looked too closely. |
