Korea was in the top 10 but now they are being pressed
by MEXICO! I was in Mexico last month and it is booming. No dollar Coronas anymore. I think Korea will stay around 14, 15, or 16 in the future.

Interestingly enough, Korea is one of (if not the) smallest countries in that list.

Good point. Otherwise, Canada and Russia are the world's biggest SLACKER nations.

Koreas heyday is over, they peaked already. Chinas taking their markets left and right.

perhaps now koreans realise they can't possibly be No.1, they'll relax and calm down a bit now. The national psyche may yet change for the better. Accept their place in the world, and all that.

Can't tell me India, China, Brazil and Mexico have a hire standard of living than Korea or Australia...
Hope Koreans stop concentrating on being hire on some list and concentrate on real stuff.

That's not what the list shows. It is refering to the total amount of 'product' in each country. Therefore, it is not surprising that a country with a large population, such as China, would be ahead of Korea. However, if you divide the total by the population of the country, you will have a closer idea of the 'standard of living', though of course not everything is about money anyway.

There's a ton of media hype about China these days but before you get too excited...per capita GDP (nominal)

1 Luxembourg 87,955 2005
2 Norway 72,306 2005
3 Monaco 67,000[citation needed] 2005
4 Qatar 62,914 2005
5 Iceland 54,858 2005
6 Ireland 52,440 2005
7 Switzerland 51,771 2006
8 Denmark 50,965 2005
9 United States 44,190 2006...
13 United Kingdom 39,213 2005
15 Canada 38,951 2006...
18 France 35,404 2006
19 Germany 35,204 2006
20 Japan 34,188...
36 South Korea 18,392 2006...
59 Russia 6,856 ...
108 Republic of the Congo 2,147 2004
109 People's Republic of China (China) 2,001 2006 :

And per capita GDP (PPP)
1 Luxembourg 80,471 2005
2 Ireland 44,087 2005
3 Norway 43,574 2005
4 United States 43,444 2005
5 Iceland 40,277 2005...
9 Canada 35,494 2005...
11 United Kingdom 35,051 2005...
16 Australia 32,938 2004...
18 France 35,404 2006
19 Germany 35,204 2006
20 Japan...
27 Greece 25,975 2005...
30 South Korea 23,926 2005...
59 Russia 12,096 2005...
79 Tonga 8,255 2005...
87 People's Republic of China 7,598 20

This isn't even taking into account the massive amount of foreign investment driving China's growth. Think about where that money is going eventually.

They should start banning more foreign products right away. It will be their only lifeline.

Close, but Canada's population is only 30 million. Korea is almost 50 million.

Lots of things:

The EU, highly educated population, speaks English, low wages, cheap land (well not anymore), first hunk of land you encounter from North America, tax cuts, government brought in foreign investment, North American companies looking for a cheap english speaking country to get a foothold in the EU economy, Irish started doing a lot of the grunt work like phone support and software internationalization for the EU. All 'n' all Ireland got the jump on the global economy and North American companies looking to outsource off shore before everyone else.

Yeah Korea has fell because the BRIC economies (well, the RIB economies) have moved up.
