| When are those things gonna start dying off or going underground or whatever they do? I'm getting tired of hearing them. I just don't understand their evolutionary strategy: let's be fat, tasty, and constantly inform predators of our location through high-pitched buzzing. |

You definitely must not be Southern. I love the way they sound; reminds me of home. |

Me too! Reminds me of TN. It's not summer without the sounds of cicadas and some good thunderstorms. Where are you from down south? |

Yea, I like the sound of them too. They sure are a noisy active bunch in Korea, especially in the northern part of the country such as in Seoul where they rattle and hum all night long. They often sound like an electric motor spinning between their oscillating rattle mating calls. It's hard to believe that a small bug can make all that racket, but they do it for the purpose of mating during their short lives. The cicadas at home would only run for about 1 hour a day just before dark, but these cicadas are really going at big time 24/7. And this is a picture I took last week of what the loud Korean version looks like.

Likewise. Although I'm not Southern. Lotsa cicadas in WI, too, hearing 'em buzz was like my nighttime lullaby when I was a kid. |

Uh oh. Too many Americans on this thread. Some people on this board might start to feel threatened. |

East TN. Went to college in VA though. The more I'm away from the south, the more I miss it. The more I'm there, the more I want to leave.
It's good to see some other Southerners on here. There aren't enough Americans, and definitly not enough people from below the Mason-Dixon line. |

Do you know Scott from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville? He's a good guy for sure, and you could meet him around Lee's Olde Towne Tavern or Le Club DeBut on I'taewon's Hooker Hill on a given Saturday.
He has stereotypically Southern Manners: He's good to everybody and is quite diplomatic.
Here is to people from Arkansas!
Sincerely,
R |
