The Gap Inc. just entered into a franchise agreement with Shinsegae group to bring in The Gap and Banana Republic into Korea.

Opening soon in Myeong Dong. Right around the corner from Pascucci. Next to the Bean Pole store which I think is under going renos.

Also Roots is coming. There's a store being built in Hyehwa and one in Myeong Dong (near the Conus and across from the Utoo Zone that has been closed for a long time now but still appears on most tourist maps).

But don't expect 38" waist khakis and XL pocket tees that are North American pocket tees. They're probably going to only have Korean sizes. So top out at 105, which is a L in North America.

the question is will it have US sizes and US prices (or reasonably close to it)? with Uniqlo and Giordano, there is quite a bit of competition for clothing basics at reasonable prices. now if only H&M also makes it over.

Those stores are not that great anyways...just a bunch of plain clothes. Nothing trendy at all. As for H&M, I've always heard that some stars shop there and that it is so good. I just went into a huge H&M in Hong Kong last week. I found one cute dress. Everything else was plain crap. Plain-looking, that is.

Just an FYI for anyone who knows/cares - this is a franchise, not a corporate store. It will not honor "certain" discounts.

I think the prices will probably be like American Apparel. I've never visited the place in the States, but supposedly it's quite cheap.

Here, the prices are seem to be 4x-5x as expensive as they should be.

I went to a Gap in Japan while was there on vacation. Nothing fit because my arms were too long. Probably will be more of the same at the Gap store here in Korea. Stuff you might actually want to buy but definitely have problems fitting into one way or another...oh well....

And to the poster who said it was bland or whatever. Gap clothes are pretty plain but as a woman, it would be a relief to see a shirt without a ribbon, ruffle, or other pathetic boob distracting/"enhancing" trim...

i love stuff from Gap. pretty much because it is so plain and simple. your new jeans will still look good the next year or the next year. but yeah, i can imagine that a 40 dollar pair of pants would probably be 100,000 won here...

Roots has been here in terms of small kiosks in department stores but not in big stand alone stores.

Exactly, double the price. And I won't pay double for plain clothes. If I pay double, it better have ribbons or something cutesy, trendy, princessy going on.

the plain (or classic) look of Gap cloths is definitely its draw.
especially for men who like dressing nice but don't like the gender-crossing men's fashion of korea...

btw- and most sadly - the days of $40 jeans at the gap are no more.
last year in nyc a pair of boot cut jeans averaged $60, if not more.
damn inflation.
atleast my won trades better this year.
