If you were an alien species about to initiate "First Contact" with Earth, which nation / government would you choose to contact first, and why?

What are the aliens' intentions in making first contact in this scenario? What is the nature of their technology? And how long have they known about us?

In any case, first contact, on their end, will likely come about from radio and television waves. Or the Voyager spacecraft, to cite another possible example.

I'd probably pick the place with the largest population and slowly descend out of cloud cover while blaring cool music out of my external sound system.

Yah, I got a spaceship. I'm not going to be subtle.

So I guess if I encountered earth I'd go for China and get ineffectively attacked by a bumbling military.

If an alien species had the technology to get to us, it would effectively be an out of context situation(thanks iain m banks). Our technology would be way behind theirs. So basically we would be no threat to them, so send someone nice. I say Oprah.

If they didn't know anything about us, they'd probably just head to the largest urban conglomeration or where the population is very dense. Is that naybe why they went to mexico city first in that movie 'signs'?

Who= Martha Stewart. She is tough and clever and could teach them a few Earthly tricks. If she were feeling friendly she might cook them an impressive dinner and give an informative after dinner craft session. And if they were not sweet Alf/ET-like aliens, she might rip their heads off and save us from them.

Where= the castle they used in Rocky Horror Show. Frank n Furter was comfotable there and I understand it has been refurbished, so they should feel at home.

And RaceTraitor, I wouldn't execute the missionaries- I suggest we offer them for their research experiments.
