Can we use our alien registration card numbers to register on Korean websites?

As far as I can tell, my number is valid when I try to register, but you have to have a matching name and the name has to be in Hangeul. I've got 4 names (First, Last and two middle) on my passport and subsequently my ARC has first, last, one middle and one initial. I've tried various Hangeul ways to write it, but no luck.

Has anyone successfully registered on a korean website or found a workaround? Some korean sites have a special foreigner sign-up section, but in that case, they want you to fax them a whole bunch of crap.

Register for ? What kind of sites exactly ? What kind of site would want a national ID # ? I can't say that I've seen sites like that, but maybe you have a specific issue

Usually not with an alien card as it has a different numeric arrangement.
Most K-sites do ask for ID card details... and we can't use 'em.
Get a co-worker to log you in.

Someone else (so it didn't come from me, right? Wink ) suggested on here that you could search for online Korean CVs/resumes, as some daft person may have put their full identity number on it...

Nearly all Korean websites require you to input a national ID in order to create an account. Its freakishly Orwellian but required. Everything from Hanmail, Daum, to Korean Video games requires it.

Acutally, the numeric arrangement is identical.. first half is your birthday, second half is your unique number. Its just you need to have the name match in hangeul.

Moot point I guess. I'll try and find someone willing to let me use their id.

Mine worked for a movie site to purchase tickets. Due note though that I have an F-2-1 VISA and a Korean credit card. Not sure if it matters or not.

Cheers!

the first six numbers follow the same pattern as a Korean's.

The next 7 do not.

Korean males start with a 1
Korean females start with a 2
Waygooks start with a 5
Mixed Korean kids start with a 4
other numbers I don't know.
