I know this has been discussed before but can I just check that there are very few foreigners in Gupo as seems to be the impression I am getting from this board?
Where is it in relation to areas with bars and the beach? |

Thanks, thats very useful. Basically I don't want to get stuck out on my own somewhere as this will be my first time in Korea and I want the security blanket of knowing there are other westerners around to help me through those first few weeks! If anyone is living there and wants to get in touch that would be great. |

Ive never heard of it. If you are looking for a security blanket, go to PNU, Semyeon, Gwangali or Haundae.
To get from one end of Busan to the next via subway cant take up to an hour.
PM for info on Pusan life. |

I worked out in Gupo for about two years. It's on the outskirts of the city, and is pretty far from most of the hotspots. PNU is about a 30-minute bus ride from Deokcheon. If you head to any of the beaches (Haeundae, Gwangali), it will take around an hour or so.
In Gupo itself, there's maybe a handful of foreigners. There's more in some of the surrounding areas (Deokcheon, Mandeok, Hwamyeong). I'm willing to bet that you could probably see most of them around PNU on the weekends, though.
I didn't really think it was a bad place to live, but it sounds to me like you probably wouldn't like it out there. If you want more information, though, feel free to PM me. |

Haeundae New Town is an area with a TON of foreigners if you are looking for that. There are a lot of hogwans there, so plenty of jobs to be had. And of course the usual amount of public schools. Like someone said PNU, Haeundae, Gwangalli/Kyungsung/Pukyoung/Daeyeon are the places with the most foreigners. |
