|
|
hey,
just bought a new computer today. Came with Vista premium. i thought there might be an option at the start to select English but alas, none.
Does anyone know if it can be changed to English? I'm unfamiliar with Vista, so would prefer to know what I'm doing. |

You have to download and install the English language pack from the Microsoft website. Then you can switch the language in the, guess what, language settings in control panel. |

I think that Koean Vista is just in Korean can't be changed to English.
Lesser known Asian languages do have language packs for windows such as Thai but Korean windows is sold in Korea for Koreans.
I could be wrong. Nerds feel free to flame away. |

Has anyone actually done this?
That would settle the question once and for all... and I'd know if I should avoid buying a laptop with Korean Vista or not. |

You can't change it. The language packs won't change your OS's language.
Need to buy Vista English edition. Also get the 64-bit version for large memory support. |

My situation is kind of the opposite. I just bought a computer in the States (English Vista). I wanted to put in a Korean IME like what I put on my XP, but it seems like you cannot do it with home premium. Anyone else have this situation? |

My computer came with vista and it asked at startup which language you want. This will change everything about your interface language-wise. However, if they set it up ahead of time, they may have set it to Korean. In that case, provided you can reinstall your vista os from your dvds you will get the option as far as which language it will be in. This is new to vista (at least from my experience) and xp didn't have this (language specific os-wise without getting a different dvd/cd).
It came with Premium home, not ultimate... And I can type in Korean, what-not using the IME, not sure what the problem might be for you Bluelake
In looking around, I may have been lucky with the version I got....it let me choose anything from Korean to English along with just about every other language out there. Maybe this isn't always the case and it could be a waste of time reinstalling it.....just so you don't waste your time for no reason.
Mine was an Asus from Taiwan, and it really did and still will let me choose my os language. |

But only by completely reinstalling Vista? Not very convenient... |

When I lived in Japan it cost me almost $400 to get the English OS. What a rip! I asked if they would reduce the cost of the computer by $400 because I wasn't getting the Japanese OS and they said no. Not even a reach around... Dry! |
