I will soon be completeing my contract and after reading some here on what i should recieve, I am a little confused. I am A US citizen. I make 2,000,000 a month. My understsanding is my last day of work i will recieve an additiuonal 2,000,000 which is Korean pension? What is the difference between pension pay and severence pay? Am I entitled to recieve a refund of some type from the Korean goverment? Also my boss had asked me not to take my vacation while working and he would let mewleave sooner with pay, but now i am getting worried because i am with 28 days of completion and he has no replacement. the other day he asked if I could stay on during my "vacation days" so he can find someone. What can I do if he does not either pay me foir them or let me leave early? |

OP....
Well............lesson number one. DON'T LET A SCHOOL TAKE YOUR VACATION FROM YOU. It is yours, you earn it, and you need it.
Also, if you don't complete your contract by the agreed date, your boss does not have to legally pay your bonus, or airfare. That is a common trick, "allowing" teachers to skip vacation, and leave early.........
You pension............OK....just figure 9% of your monthly pay, multiply it by 12, and you will have your total. You can go to the pension office, request to have it deposited into your Korean bank account (assuming you have an international ATM card) and it will get done quickly. They did it for me the next day..........bang, done, grand! But, you need to have a one way ticket to show them that you are leaving Korea.
I don't know what to tell you. It seem this is another example of poor Korean planning, and the foreign teacher paying the price. How about just telling your director that you will just finish on the agreed contract date? I would not take any vacation between now and then...just to be safe. And, I would not leave early, replacing the lost vacation time. Just stick to the contract.
If you want to stay and help him out, that is your choice. But, CYA before you make that decision.
Good luck.
