If you're not negotiating millions you're likely not negotiating with anyone who matters much. And I'm not talking won.

So why not tell us about your high level domestic and international negotiations in a little more detail. Where did you do your MBA and study your negotiation skills?

some observations of SD

Clothing: Today I am wearing a polo shirt, shorts, and sandals. When I wear a polo shirt here, I sometimes feel overdressed. I'm not kidding. When I go to stores, nearly everyone wears t-shirts, shorts, and flip-flops. It is like the universal dress code for people. And if you are a woman? If your legs are half-decent or better, show those babies off! Yeah, seems that the rule of thumb for them is the shorter the shorts the better.

Stop giving people a hard time. It is all good and well to be a mouth behind the computer. It just makes you look like a wanker. Stop it and get back to the subject at hand.

Absolutely! So back to the subject:

If the hostages were Japanese:
1. They wouldn't be over in Afganistan as a bunch of insane Jesus crazed Christians who are out to save the souls of Muslims ... rejecting all sorts of sound advice and protection. That's certainly not a Japanese trait.

2. If the hostages were Japanese, they'd be involved with a WELL RUN hall-of-fame type organized humanitarian group whose sole purpose is to bring serious aid to the needy. And they'd be smart enough to bring along either an arsonal of weaponry or soldiers for protection or both. You know Japanese will leave nothing to chance and spare no expense, especially when it comes to personal safety and security.

3. But let's say they got ambushed and captured despite all the planning, organization, attention to detail, and what not -

The Japanese would either:
a.) charm their way out,
b.) use their skills to escape, or
c.) commit suicide before the Taliban had the chance to get the glory.
