|
|
About a week ago my online games have become unplayable because of the slow frame rate. I restored my system going back 2 weeks but that didn't help. I'm only using 10gb of my 200gb hard drive and have deleted any unnecessary programs, as well as exited all programs while running the game, but neither have helped. How can I get my gameplay to be smooth again? Thanks |

Are you sure its frame rate and not internet connection?
If you are using a laptop have you accidentally set it to powersaver mode? |

Possible culprits:
Virus software. Did you recently install McAffee anti-virus, Norton Anti-Virus, AVG free?
Did you recently install an anti-spyware program?
Did you recently install a bittorrent program?
It's possible that any of the above are running in the background and using up your computers 'power'. Another possibility is that you have accidentally installed spyware installed on your computer.
Have you recently downloaded any files (game files for example) onto your computer? |

I don't have any anti-virus software on my computer.
I have BitLord, but I make sure to turn it off while I'm playing the game. I close all unnecessary running programs in the system tray to try and maximize cpu performance, but this still doesn't help. It's possible that my internet speed sucks, but I haven't had this problem before in the 9 months that I've been playing the game.
The game does however download automatic updates when there are new maps, sounds, patches, etc. and this may be the reason why it's not working now.
I've got an AMD 64 3000+ with 1gb of RAM. Does my computer need to be upgraded? |

That's probably your answer right there.
You might want to install AVG just to see what it finds. |

Test your internet speed here:
http://www.speedtest.net/
If you tell us what the name of the game is then maybe we could give you more info. |

I'll test the speed when I get home. The game is Warrock, an online FPS from Nexon |

Have you installed a program like Disk Keeper recently. It's a sod for slowing things down and degragging at random. |

I installed AVG and it deleted a couple of trojans, but I still have the same problem.
My internet speed is not an issue either. I tested it on Speedtest.net and got a DL speed of 13,240 kb/s and an upload speed of 12,362 kb/s.
Any other suggestions? Do I need more RAM? |

If you're using windows...
Close all programs.
Press ctrl + alt +delete on your keyboard.
A box should pop up. Click the tab labelled 'Processes'. It should show you a list of items currently running. You want to find out if anything is using up a lot of your computers resources and two of the ways to do this is to find out how much CPU and memory items are using. So, click on the word 'CPU' to order the items according to the amount of CPU they are using. System Idle should be using up most of the resources. Do the same thing for Memory column.
Press the Esc key on the keyboard to get rid of this grey box.
Now start your internet browser and go through the same process of checking the items to see if anything is using up a lot of memory or CPU.
These are very brief instructions so you'll probably have to post back if you require more info. |

I think I found a solution. I have to use IE to open the game, but once the game launched then I used Alt+Tab to go back to IE and closed it. The game was actually playable and I didn't notice any lag at all |
