Hi All
Well maybe I'm gullible but I thought Saipan looked nice and Guam tickets were getting slim for choosok. So I booked.
Has anyone been or have any advice for me?
Here's hoping the only advice I will need there is to enjoy the surf and the sun!
Are things really expensive currently?
Cheers,
Michelle |

I was there in 2002 so my information may be a little out of date.
First, the place is overrun by Korean and Japanese tourists. If you want to get away from the touristy areas you will need to rent a car. Our hotel arranged a car for us and it was around $30 USD per day. The roads are not crowded and a car will allow you to visit the more remote beaches. My wife and I found a beach that was completely deserted for over four hours. If you limit yourself to the beaches by the main hotels you will be fighting for space to sit.
Second, the places that are expensive tend to cluster around the main hotel area. I estimate that food was twice as expensive here as it is in Seoul. You can travel to the other little towns on the island and find local grocery stores that are cheaper, but they are still just as expensive as Seoul.
Finally, don't forget to visit all of the WWII sites on the island. They have bunkers, tanks and all manner of interesting relics left over from the US invasion of the island. You can take a ferry to Rota and see the old B-29 bomber base. I think that this is where the plane that dropped a nuclear bomb on Japan left from.
Enjoy your stay. |

If you dive, the place is amazing. If you don't you can get certified for under 200 dollars. |
