Well, I've posted on here before, but am still a newbie and would love some advice/answers.

I have yet to get my immigration card, which is fine, I've only been here a month and a half. My boss is not always aware of the law and tends to make up answers to questions rather than look it up herself.

[She was SURE that I had to get my immigration card within the first week of my arrival, until I pulled out my passport to show her the note that immigration had given me saying I had 90 days.]

Anyway, she is supposed to go Monday to get my card for me. She told me today that I don't need to go with her, that she can pick it up for me on my behalf and I don't have to miss any of my classes. This seems a little fishy to me, because she wants me to just give her my ppt and wait for the card to come back.

Is this legit? I'm sure it could be, but after the other small problems I've had with her making up answers, I'd like to know for sure. I can't find the information on the Korean Immigration website, but don't really want to give her my ppt, diploma, and transcripts so she can be in possesion of everything I have here that actually matters.

Am I being paraniod? I hope this is the case. Is it even possible to get the card without my being present? [I would assume that they need my signature at least...] It would also suck if she went to the office and then realized that she needed me after waiting in line. She's not really the smartest woman I've ever met.

Anyway, any help is greatly appreciated!

There is a form to fill out, and a fee (can't remember how much). Make sure to get a couple passport photos done for the form.

Yes, a third party can drop off your stuff for you. Ask them to mail it back to your school. You'd pay a small COD fee when it arrives, but then it comes to your hands again.

How long has your boss had a hogwon? Don't let her "I'm clueless about the law" act fool you.

Your transcripts are USED if you've got your visa. I don't know where the heck they are, but she shouldn't have them any longer. Nor should she have your diploma.

You don't work for Kath and D do you? Cause if you do GET OUT NOW.

Yes, she can go to Immigration and get your ARC without you.

Thanks for the replies.

I don't work for Kath and D, no. She's been open for 6years. It's not that she's putting on a clueless act, more so just a couple of things I've asked [law related or not] she thinks she already knows the answer and doesn't bother to check if she could be wrong.

Totally random case in point: As a big HP fan, I wanted to get the new book when it came out. I gave her telephone number to call of a local bookstore to see if they'd have it. They didn't, said I'd have to order it and it would come after the release date. From this, she decided that ALL bookstores in ALL OF KOREA wouldn't have the book. [I managed to find a bookstore that would less than 5 minutes later.] Haha. It's just the little things.

Also, I was letting her keep the diploma until the card came, because I figured she'd need it for that. I just assumed that she would need another copy of my transcripts [I brought a couple, sealed] to apply for the card. I just didn't feel comfortable handing over my ppt because I've heard horror stories about directors and didn't want to get screwed. [She's been pretty decent so far on all other things.]

At some point you have to trust your employer; and I can't see any reason she would be trying to 'pull anything'.

When you get your ARC and passport back (it may take several days), make sure you get diploma as well - there's no reason for her to hang on to it except to hold it as 'ransom'.
