I've noticed that people tend to veer to their left when walking, which is opposite of folks back home.

Simone's advice about not making eye-contact seems plausible. Sometimes I like to try a little experiment where I walk in a straight line on the sidewalk seemingly oblivious to the people I'm approaching. I haven't run into anyone yet, because they'll move out of the way. (Of course, I yield to any old, handicapped, or pregnant people who might be in front of me.) If, on the other hand, I walk along visibly noticing people and making eye-contact, there are all of these awkward moments where Koreans aren't sure who's gonna yield. Try it sometime, it's very empowering when you're having a bad day.

What's gets to me are the jerks who smoke in the washroom when no-smoking signs are quite visible. Truly pathetic.

Embarassed Sorry. You probably saw me once. I find myself becoming conditioned by living here to the point where it doesn't cross my mind that some people would be offended.

Never did that back home, and won't when I return. But after living here for years........
