I'll second the fact that being isolated can really get to you. I live a three minute walk from my school on top of a mountain, the only foreigner here. I've never been the type to walk up to a stranger and start a conversation, so it's been tough making friends--especially when the people I have met live hours away.

I've always been comfortable in my own skin, so I don't let it get to me too much--I have several hobbies and try to keep active.

Still, if making lots of new friends is a concern, you might want to think twice about a PS gig for your first time in Korea.

Yu Bum Suk does alot of talking and alot of brown nosing. His nose is so covered in feces not even a sewer could hold him up if he blew his nose.
He's a great talker on this board, if you want to lie to yourself to keep you going like he does and you find it helps, then by all means. Dave's has a place for you. I know the roll call, now he's going to come on here and talk about his salary and all his benefits and how great he's doing. Been there done that with him, it really means nothing.. and all talk! A Bum is exactly all he is, IMO.

The kids all respected me at the beginning, that wasn't the problem. It was everything around it. The kids were the least of my worries. I couldn't care less what they had to say. They thought I was a cool teacher actually lol, but the bureaucracy will get to you just watch.

ps: Besides the kids will talk about you whether they like you or not. You'll just never catch them.

Sorry but I`m having too much fun on my second holiday of the summer to worry about brown-nosing or some twerp who couldn`t handle his PS job.

Cheers from Kyoto.

You can't be having that much fun if you're running into internet cafes rather than the beach and women.

Cheers from the land of sunshine!

ps: and not worrying about going back to korea!

At many posh cafes in Japan - which you can afford on a decent Korean salary - they`ll actually bring a laptop to your table, so there`s no need to hunt out cyber-cafes with ultra slow computers and non-functioning air conditioning.

Isn`t your bar-girl getting bored?

Oh.... you really got me there pal.

I don't need a bar girl I get my chicks for free, but i'm sure on your korean salary you can afford to pay for it.

Cheers!

man- i hate to see any teacher (good or bad, new or old) get shafted on pay like you did... but again- wow... youre really effectively removing any doubt in our collective minds as to why you got hosed, and at the same time damaging the remaining shreds of credibility in your self-made claims to teaching wisdom.

better luck next time. Very Happy

Are you crazy?

Removing doubt? I have nothing to prove to anyone you moron.

Go work for an after school program if you want to, what do I care?

You're a joke. I warned people about what's going on, I have no desire to reep exceptance from anyone on Dave's cafe because it means nothing if no one wants to listen to me that's their problem. That's what's going to happen to them.

You want to get ripped off on taxes at the end of the year and deal with spoiled brats go right head...it's your bank account and blood pressure not mine.

I'm sorry I don't want to insult you but I think you're really stupid if you think I posted that to convince people of who's right or wrong. Right isn't the issue....what's going on is. I call it facts. Hence the bank account scheme.

im not discussing right or wrong (or spelling errors for that matter), merely stating that you appear poised to jump in on any public school discussion with vitrol.

while your underlying facts (bank scheme, etc.) may indeed be true in your case, the reality is that when you utilize attacks ad hominem on your fellow teachers, rather than sticking to the issues at hand (of which you claim are the greatest import), then your valuble info and experience lose just that: any value, and any real sense that your experiences are to be expected.

stick to discussing those facts you prize so highly and youll have a much more receptive audience.

Then why are you even posting here? And why are you spending page after page arguing if you don't care about being accepted? Why not simply state your position and let it go? That's what someone would do if they didn't care if anyone believed them or not. They certainly wouldn't spend pages and make multiple threads on the subject if they didn't care.

It's a Korean word program called 'Hangul;' at least I think that's the name. I have a 2004 edition. I think it's fairly common place; most of the computers at my public school have a copy of it, so maybe find the computer disc guardian and grease the wheels so to speak.

If Im not mistaken there is a link to a free reader for the HWP program on this forum. I think this is it: http://www.haansoft.com/hnc5_0/haansoft_en/product_info/hangul/hangul2005_info.php

No it doesn't.

Most people know what kind of jerks troll Dave's especially in the Korean forums. I think after posting my thread it was left to be. ThenI added to another post about public school jobs giving my opinion and support.

I don't know how one has to do with the other...I said my piece about after school programs and I said my piece about public schools. I don't see what your problem is. If you referring to why I keep answering you trolls in conjuction to losing crediblity with my posts then take it as you want and go join an after school program and on your next contract sign up with an isolated public school.. All because i'm losing crediblity.

Go for it!!

You're right..after school programs are great and so are isolated public schools..I don't know what i'm talking about.

You think like a highschool drop out. First of all I posted to warn other teachers so they shouldn't have the same experience. What in the world does that have to do with acceptance?? I don't need to be accepted anywhere because I am comfortable being myself. I'm not a panzy like you that has to follow a crowd. Futhermore anyone searching for any kind of acceptance on Dave's Cafe would need a reality check. This is not a place for acceptance young man.

Correction that's what YOU would do. Not me, because I do care. I care what happens to other teachers unlike you. You just admitted it. I will spend as much time as necessary to make sure that company is made aware of, and that teachers don't go through the same nightmare. I was very descriptive in every way possible to make sure other teachers knew exactly what was going on. I know it's appreciated and you can go back and read my thread. That is my obligation to being a part of Dave's cafe and having a place to address our concerns. This is our "Law" this is our "Court" and if you don't like it get the hell outta here.

Secondly I don't just post and leave.. I post and support. I never started arguing with anyone you started with me..you show me one post where I addressed you first about anything or anyone else for that matter. The only one wasting space is you.

Seriously.. get lost kid.

I was thinking of working in a public school in Korea because I heard that it is better than working for a hogwon. After this thread, I am worried now. Is there a huge chance that you will get a bad public school job or is this just a rare incident? I would really like to know some honest opinions from different people of the chances of getting a bad public school job.

Nobody can answer this. There are too many factors, and a lot will weigh on your co-teacher and your principal. But basically, a bad public school job is really no different than a bad job at home. It's no big deal, you just get on with it.
