Anyone else catch the feature article on dog meat in the Joongang Ilbo? One of the most brilliant pieces of journalism. Ever.
"How much is that doggy on the menu?"
Alas the web version doesn't do the print version justice. The dogs used as bullet points is classic.

I'll be right there. Please send me an RSVP.
I'll take my dog well beaten please. As for the dog *beep*, well, I'll take that rare. I need as much stamina as the ancestors of Korea will allow.
Thanks in advance,
Vicissitude
p.s. Please seat me away from the 50-60 year old men as I am a woman who wants to maintain her purity and image. Much appreciated! |

s dog meat really good for stamina?
Joo: Yes, it is, especially gaesoju, or dog wine. Gaesoju is a fermented drink that is distilled by cooking the dog in a double boiler. Moreover, our ancestors used the dogs *beep* in the gaesoju and as a medicine to supplement energy. But I repeat, most treatments of Oriental medicine were derived from nature and peoples experience. |
This is perhaps one of the most disturbing paragraphs I have ever read.
Pardon me, but can you pass me the dog wine? Oh, it tastes wonderful! It really is a nutty flavour. Do you know what time of year the dog's pen is was loped off to make this vintage? |

| I wonder what qualifications one must have to be an oriental doctor here. Must be similar to a witch doctor/voodoo man. |

Ahaha! Brilliant. I can just imagine the connoisseurs: "(Takes a sip) I say, this is a frisky tipple! Definitely from the Fideaux region. Just the merest hint of marrow-bone jelly to tantalise the palate, don't you think? And there's a certain woody rigidity that indicates a longer exposure to the pnis de chien than usual." |

| Can you find this dog pen!s soju in stores? I would absolutely LOVE to own a bottle--mostly so I can give it out as X-Mas gifts. |

I found this information at Kyung Hee University's website:
| Quote: |
Degree Requirements
Attainment of credits
1) 13 credits from core cultural subjects, 9 credits from disciplinary cultural subjects, and 13 credits from departmental subjects should be obtained.
2) At least 40 credits from major subjects should be obtained during the pre-Korean medical course.
3) At least 161.5 credits should be obtained during the main Korean medical course.
4) At least 3 subjects from the major elective courses should be passed during the main Korean medical years.
What Do You Study?
- Pre-Medical Courses
Introduction to Oriental Medicine, Classical Chinese, Chinese Literature of Oriental Medicine, Medical English, Medical History, Oriental Physiology & Lab, Biochemistry & Lab, Embriology, Classics of Oriental Medicine, Medicine Qigong, Medical Statistics, The Chinese language
- Oriental Medical Courses
Classics of Oriental medicine , Famous theories in Oriental medicine, Herbology & lab, Lab of herbal processology, Prescriptionology & Lab, Histology & Lab, Oriental pathology & Lab, Meridianology & Lab, Oriental preventive medicine & lab, Anatomy & lab, Oriental physiology & lab, Microbiology & lab, Physiology, Pathology, Oriental pharmacology & lab, Preventive medicine, Western diagnosis, Legal medicine, Health laws, Sanghanrhon, Febrile infectious disease, Internal medicine(Liver system), Internal medicine(Heart system), Internal medicine(Spleen system), Internal medicine(Lung system), Internal medicine(Kidney system), Acupuncture & moxibustion, Gynecology, Pediatrics, Oriental dermatology & Surgery, Opthalmology & Otorhinolaryngology, Neuropsychiatry, Sasang Constitutional medicine, Rehabilitation medicine, Manipulation practice, Radiology, Clinical pathology, Diagnostics, Emergency medicine. |
Southern California University of Health Sciences has a dual program for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine with the following requirements:
| Quote: |
Students entering the College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine must have at least two years (60 semester/90 quarter credits) of education at the baccalaureate level. Additional courses (two units each) in biology, chemistry, physics, and psychology must be completed within three trimesters (one calendar year) of matriculation.
Applicants must have a minimum prerequisite GPA of 2.25, as calculated by the Office of Admissions, in their baccalaureate level work. |
Now that we've gotten the academic requirements out of the way, let's take a stroll over to the Wiki article on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). You will see that what constitutes TCM in Asia and in the West is different.
Anyway, the TCM prof's blurbs sound like he's just shooting off at the mouth about dog. The other one sounds like he actually examined the issue. |

I've never seen it in a bottle but I seen it in those little plastic bags that they sell at those traditional korean medicine shops. Just buy a bunch of bags and put it in a bottle.
