I'm a gyopo and I've been in Korea for about 8 months and I have yet to meet another gyopo. Where do you guys/girls hang out? Is there a club/bar/place thats popular for gyopos in or around Seoul? None of my Korean friends know any other gyopos besides me. None of the 15+ native teachers I see on a regular basis know any either. Send me a PM or something.

Most gyopos I know are from work or past workplaces, but we don't have much in common so we don't hang out. Other gyopos I met at bars in Itaewon... but so far they are much older than me, so we don't have much in common either. I'd sure like to meet a gyopo with common interests. Anyone have any suggestions for me? Very Happy

hmm... im not in korea anymore... but i can try to help.

yes there are kyopo hangouts in seoul.

there is actually a sizable kyopo population of people who moved back to korea because parents moved back, who live in korea for post college jobs (working for a company), got deported Laughing

(usually ex-bangers, who end up in the korean military), going to school in korea, yonsei/kodae programs, or grew up in korea going to international schools, moved back and forth. the ones who went to international schools (SFS, SIS, etc...) are the probably the ones who know the most peoples.

two i know of is NB (hongdae, haven't been to kangnam one), various bars in shinchon (that changes according to yonsei year), or S-Bar in 청담동. Of course this is all from 3 years ago, it may have changed. My friends were in the finance community in Korea, so they took me to all these kyopo parties...i met a grip from arirang channel there...lolz, random gasu's... Laughing

also, if u went to an ivy league or a UC, they have clubs and private parties for that too.

also... there is a "In Korea" blogring on xanga, just do a search on xanga too... im sure there is one on myspace and friendster too.

i've worked almost exclusively with gyopos in my year and a half here.

lots of them hang out in apgu. not sure exactly where.

i guess it would be harder to meet them, as they blend in so well...

on preview, this post isn't very helpful at all...

It's kinda easy to spot some of the female kyopos when you're out and about. Notice they're a bit meatier than the average Korean girl and dress in tighter, form-fitting, clothing. And not surprisingly, you hear them speaking English. Maybe you can walk up to them and strike up a conversation? Just hope you don't get slapped! Laughing

for some reason, the gyopo's i met in korea were all weird, emotional, strnage, or stange militants (with no real purpose - they usually think white people or oppressing them or something or other)

i've never met a gyopo outside of work (in Korea) and i never at all made friends with any of them... i remember one korean american moron from work who was just way too emotional and strange to hang with just call me out of no where asking me if he could borrow 2 or 3 million from me LOL, of course i told the weirdo no. in the summers you can hear fairly hot korean american females in places like E-Dae and Shinchon... but they talk like this:

"THoooSe shoes R FUN-KAY!! jakie!'"

"I like bad boyZ toO! I got rAAANGE!"

"I'm fEEindin' for some닭깔-삐! GURL!"

If you like gambling, try the foreigner casinos. There's usually a few young gyopos at the poker tables (myself included).

Gyopo women are soooo easy to spot. Their make-up is totally different (I prefer their western make-up styles, actually, because it seems a lot more naughty to me), and yes, they can weigh a bit more (not a bad thing).

Gyopo guys are VERY difficult to pick out. Can't tell until they speak.

I'd say ethnic Korean adoptees (whom GOAL caters to) are different from gyopos, and I'm sure others can explain why. Adoptees have big group gatherings, but a few resent it when gyopos crash.

That said, summer is usually the season when Korea is infested with gyopos going to Korean-language school or visiting relatives. Most of the time, they drink and go out, and have earned a duly earned bad rep for causing trouble, especially the hip-hop wannabes.

Many gyopos, especially the vermin from Southern California, will screw others royally over big time, and I speak from experience.

But to answer the question, well, I'd say most gyopos infest the Gangnam area, especially Apkujeong-dong. The pricey bars around that area seem to have hordes of gyopos dropping 8,000 won for a damn Cass, just so they can seem cool.

I know this might sound racist, but why would you want to meet other North Americans of Korean ethnicity, rather than just any normal people? I'd feel a bit weird asking for the best place to meet some whiteys, since all I work with are Kyopos, and we all know how different they are than I am...
