If you could buy a car made anywhere in the world, what country's car would you buy?

Why?

Do you have any personal experience with those cars?

Comments from first-hand experience on the worst-made cars are also welcome!

I apologize if I left any favorite country out, but this is the longest poll the system would allow.

Japan makes the top cars.

I just bought a brand new Honda Civic LX and it rocks!

"Out of a job yet? Keep buying foreign!"

That's what it's like to live in Michigan, you'll see those bumper stickers on a daily basis.

Although I would get stoned for saying it, the next car I buy will be a Honda or Toyota.

I had a Toyota that blew up (and it was always in the shop). My dad's Toyota also broke down after he bought it. My Honda has 160k, and it has been a good little car.

i'd get an Acura NSX old enough to have pop-up headlights and new enough to have six gears.

a red one passed me on Interstate 40 once, probably doing about 120 miles an hour. it sounded like an F-16.

then, one time in Florida, i saw one going by in the other direction flat-out. three or four minutes later, a bunch of police cars went lumbering by with lights and sirens.

it's the baddest car. and it's made...in Japan.

of course, a new front-engine all-wheel-drive one is coming out soon with 500 horsepower and the most sophisticated AWD system ever made. i'm sure it will make the old one look like a Chevy Cavalier.

it will also be made...in Japan.

the great thing about it is that you will be able to drive it like a bat out of hell for 220,000 miles and all you'll ever have to do is put gas in it and put new tires on it once in a while. a Honda is a Honda.

the best car i ever drove was a 1991 Honda Accord coupe. it was my girlfriend's car. it had over 200k miles on the clock and blew smoke out of the exhaust pipe. but it just sounded good and felt good and...hell, i don't know...it drove like a Honda.

Was difficult choosing between Germany and Japan, but the nod went to Germany for building quality cars for so long. Their engineering is so good that most of the German companies have bought over many others including Bentley and Lamborghini. They also provide engines for cars like Pagani Zonda and the fastest car in the world the Bugatti Veyron.

While Germany excel in engineering and brute strength, Japan thrive on efficiency and technology. Cars like the NSX and GTR don't cost anywhere near the best Alpinas and AMGs but they are seriously up there for performance and even better reliability. The NSX is truely a world class supercar. Name one car that has been sold for more than 10 years by local dealerships on the same design and specs.

If the newest GTR and NSX turn out to be good, then it would be Japan over Germany.

Japan?

Are you insane?

Taking the view that the automobile is an extension of the peni5, there's no way I'd roll up to take a girl out in a Nissan.

Regardless of all other considerations, British cars reign supreme in the design stakes.

Think we need to clarify "best"

Functional?
Reliable?
Economical?
Practical?
Aesthetical?
Greased Lighteningical?

My first car was a Honda. Little blue 2-door Civic so it goes.

Come rain or shine, she'd always start first time with a cheeky little pop-pop and once up and running, the engine never missed a beat.

I was happy.

I used to take my girl out for little adventures in it.

Then she ran off with someone else.

I sold it not long after and vowed never to set foot in one again.

exactly. if you mean "best value" then Japan. But if you mean, "best performance, aesthetics, innovation, engineering" then Germany.

Japan takes Germany, copies, and makes it cheaper... but something gets lost on the way.

I loved the Elantra I had while I was in Korea. In the States I bought a 1995 Infinity with 45000 miles. It has been so great. Bose surround sound, luxury everything.

I wouldn't buy either a new car nor an American car. German cars are too expensive and maintenance is really expensive.

Except the Trabant. Now there was an affordable car.

An older model Japanese or Korean lux car suits me fine. I like comfort, reliability, and a good price.

I have a 1989 toyota corona station wagon with 220,000km on the clock. I can get up to 700km on a 50 L tank. It has broken down once in 7 years (cambelt broke $300 NZ to fix). I can fit skis and snowboards or surfboards or bikes or three sheep (don't ask) plus 5 people in it. I have driven 120,000 km in the last 7 years in it all over NZ. It is starting to look a little dated tho

My vote goes toyota, unstoppable, keeps their value, fuel efficient and cheap to fix (esp the older models)
