| Who would I rather see a portrait of Mao, Hitler or Osama on a tee? Only an idiot would wear any of them, if you ask me. Osama killed the least number of people, so if I had to choose I'd choose Osama. If you want to display pop art or your support for communism/socialism there must be a better way of doing it. |

I agree...
There must be a limit and I think that limit depends on the political atmosphere in the country you are living/working.
I mean, you wouldn't wear a "Jesus is King" tshirt in Saudi Arabia or Afghanistan or "Down with the Queen" tee with QEII in a crossed-out circle in London.
It depends on the place where the person lives in and social environment of the place and how much they tolerate it.
But no one can force their individual values and ideas on others and expect them to accept that view. In regards to ideology......especially for western people...it is more a matter of choice than a system forced upon them.
And this might be worth asking....for those who lived in Korea before 1990, what do you think would happen if a foreigner walked around wearing a tee that might be seen as "left-wing oriented"? |

Hitler? What does he have to do with anything. >?
I have several Mao badges, collectors items from Red China---a colorful bit of history. I guess people died there and I suppose that's a bad thing but isn't this PC ness gone loony?
Bu yeh I guess Mao is , for some odd reason, considered "cute and cuddly" rather than vicious. |

| You guess people died there and suppose that's a bad thing? Tens of millions died under Mao's leadership and it's most definetely a bad thing. It's also bad that he was married four times and didn't raise his children. I'm also unconcerned with PCness but I don't see what that has to do with thinking it's wrong to display pics of a demon like Mao. |

| I guess the Chinese people subverted Mao's 'cult of personality' as a way of dealing with it. They subverted it by turning it into a tourist export, perhaps. It doesn't explain why tourists buy the stuff, but it's difficult to escape an aggressive peddler in China, and some tourists will buy anything I guess. |

To do just this by force is the legacy of Mao. I think this is the nature of the Ops bemusement with people sporting his image on a T-shirt like he was Hello Kitty. |

Some people would use his pictures as charms.
Because he's powerful when he's alive, so he must be powerful to drive away ghosts and bad lucks too |

| The rock group Rage Against the Machine used to have Che on their bands shirts. If I see someone wearing a Che shirt, and it doesn't have RATM on it, I just think they are ignorant. |

Isn't it also ignorant to suggest that all blonde-haired, blue-eyed big chested mid-western girls that sport tight Hello Kitty tees and those tacky tiny pink and white hello-kitty backpacks and fanny-high miniskirts would all be named "Britney" "Tiffany" or "Melanie" and have nicknames like "princess" on anonymous forums like "Dave's ESL cafe"???
I would think so.....[j/k] |

| I wish I knew how to post pics in here. |
look at the buttons above the typing window where you type your reply and look for one called "Img", it is the image button.
Find a picture on yahoo or google and copy the URL from the address window and then click on the "Img" button once, then paste the URL on the typing window for your reply and then click the "Img" button again and presto!....you posted a picture |

That's because he won, and the winners write the history books.
If the Axis (the original one) had won World War II, I'm sure we'd all be reading about what swell guys Hitler and Hirohito were. |
