Lots of uneducated blather about what misogyny is and isn't, emotional outpour, and a pinch of e-catharsis just to keep it real, but still almost no answer to the OP. Ella suggested waegs in Korea. T!ts suggested New Zealand. Chloe says North America (Canada or US?).
Three pages, only three relevant responses. What the f[u]ck is wrong with you people? |

I'm in Canada and have spent a lot of time in the USA. I can't actually give a full nomination Canada or the US, as I haven't yet travelled beyond those two countries. My lack of international experience disqualifies my vote |

Misogyny is the wrong word for what happens on this board. It's not really hatred of women at all, but the sexual objectification of women.
|
i dunno... the korean feminists in korea, (very scary bunch, scarier than the nor cal variety of berkeley feminists I know) are VERY against objectification of women. they organize and protest these sorts of things, in the tens of thousands. with sticks... sharp sticks. |
Wow, where are these women?
And I do think these posts comparing the hotness of women are misogynistic and demeaning, not to mention racist. Its nothing new though. Anyone who grows up looking a little bit different gets this kind of abuse. In Korea, women who aren't Asian look different. Where I grew up, Jewish-looking beauty was not the norm, so that was not considered attractive. It seems ridiculous to pit women against each other in this manner, to not recognize that the very idea of beauty has been conditioned into our minds by various sources...it is in fact possible to deprogram yourself and notice a deeper beauty, a lasting sexiness in people that is seperate from the messages we're force fed in this culture. |
yes i agree with u it is offensive. a lot of times, we deal with such rude tones in society (of this type of comparison) because people become a cycle of emotional toilet buckets, when people just crap all over others and the cycle just goes round and round and people get used as a toilet bucket would be. but yeah, i find women who are mentally strong against that sort of programming u speak of to be very sexy... because it means they have a strong mind who can be a protective mother who can shield children from the bad influences of society.
umm... if i tell u where to find these women... are u going to join them???
   |
Both of you b*tches be trippin. Kindly get the sand out of your vage and realize that men and women like to talk about each other and compare each other. It's not a big deal. How can you possibly be offended by men talking about what type of girls men find attractive?
Maybe cause whiny and kunty didn't make the list?
and comparing women is RACIST!!??? RACIST?? Because someone likes slanty eyes over round ones, or curly hair over straight hair? ARE YOU MENTAL?
You're just LOOKING to be offended aren't you? |

its actually a latin american...performer.
anyway- i call out some of the posters here for being shrill and acting all victimized because, god forbid- men want to talk about women, and you in turn, call me a drag queen.
isn't the fact that you think all women have to ascribe to certain beliefs and react in a similar manner quite....
sexist? |

well the thing is you are not a woman. so i was saying if u are trying to be drag and act out a certain way, then why not make it believable? isn't wearing a dress to be drag sexist according to your definition then? respect and tone is more important in this case.
i saw a post where u said:

I really don't like anything else. |
and you have an avatar of Jem and the Misfits.
So the confusion is where I am not quite sure. All I am saying is, if you want to be drag, go ahead cool. I lived in San Francisco before, the only problem i saw was that black gays didn't seem to be accepted in Castro, but other than that, who cares?
But generally I was under the impression that to do drag, one has to let go of their previous "man" mindset, is that not true? |

Chimp,
At the risk of sounding whiney or k*nty, as you so eloquently articulated, I think its a bit naive to think that racism plays no part in evaluating beauty. I am not a victim, nor am I blind. |

Ok. Definie racism- and then explain how it plays into beauty. |

oh gosh. let it go. its normal to be conditioned a certain way by the media. the standard of beauty for a tribe in africa, may be different than the standard for the vikings or the asian inuits.
jeez. for a drag guy, u should be smarter about this sort of stuff. |

well, I gave an example above but I'll give another one. Racism is when people who define themself as a certain race (the definition of race has changed through history) hold social and economic power and exclude others from opportunities and priveleges according to the other's "race". Right now the caucasian "race" holds this power throughout the world and whether individual people have discrimination against other races, it doesn't change the fact that white people have benefits and privileges because of their skin color.
Examples of how race influences perceptions of beauty depends on where someone lives and the power structures in place. Today, in most western countries, a majority of the images defined as beautiful are white women with a specific body type. I'm saying a MAJORITY, not all, and this is still a problem. The eye-flap surgery in Korea can be traced to an inundation of racist images of beauty. |
