Everything was going along fine. Then suddenly, everything kind of "reset" itself. All my songs, movies, photos, documents, etc are still there on the HD, but every program, including the OS itself, seems to have been completely reset to think that it's just out of the box. All the preferences have reverted to their original states. iTunes is empty, I need to re-import all the songs - same with iPhoto, Word, etc.
To clarify: If I try to open a file within Word, I go to my "Documents" folder but it appears to be empty. Same thing happens if I try to access my music through iTunes, or try to find pictures via iPhoto, etc. But if I open a Finder window, I can find everything still sitting right there where it was this morning, and all the files still open through Finder with the appropriate program.
So.... WTF?!?!?! Any ideas?
(PS - I've never been one to claim that Macs are "bulletproof", that they're invulnerable, that they never crash, anything like that, so all you anti-Mac type folks can just keep the smarmy "I-told-you-so" stuff to yourself, thanks.) |

| Try using the disk utiliy to repair disk permissions. if this doesn't work boot to the install disks or your os disk (whichever is most recent) and run repair disk in the disk utility. Should help this issue. |
