hi, I got a job and start in september. My school told me that they would send me to japan once I arrive to get my work visa ( all expences paid) is this normal?
Dont get me wrong, going to japan albeit for a few days after arriving in korea sounds great but I thought you usually had to go to your nearest embassy to get it sorted before you arrived so you could then get straight to work, any thoughts? |

This is not uncommon, especially if the school is in a pinch to hire a new recruit...Take advantage of the time and enjoy your quick hop to Japan once you arrive. I am surprised they didn't just schedule you to stop over there on the way, unless you are coming from someplace other than North America, which would make sense...At any rate it is quite normal for this to happen... |

Don't be surprised if you don't go to Japan right away. A lot of hagwons will try to delay it as long as they can. Which means you are working illegally. I had one owner tell me that it was ok to work with no VISA for 3 months as long as you had the certificate. That is BS. Unless you have tyhe stamp/sticker in your passport you are working illegally. |
