And anyway: As long as the Dutch are gobbling up hardcore porn, doesn't that kind of show that the Islamists are losing?

Well, this seedy trend predates the Muslim immigrants by three decades. The porn is not even put behind the counter or half-concealed in plastic wrap. Anyone can open it. And they are often placed in the magazine racks next to newspapers and mainstream publications in easy reach of children, even in international airports. Soft porn and some hardcore porn is viewable on regular public access TV, not just cable. To me that's inexcusable.

I don't think Muslims are going to change the hardheaded Dutch anytime soon, mind you, but the archbishop's attitude expresses a popular misperception that you can appease fanatics. And that is chilling to me. Of course, not all the Muslim immigrants are fanatics, I realize, but they have infiltrated the communities.

Stanley Fish has written a magnificent explanation of Muslim fanaticism which I need to get online. I've never read such a well-reasoned piece on this topic before--it was part of an essay he wrote for The Chronicle of Higher Education about three years ago. Heck, even Big Bird would probably have to agree with it.

Critics have asserted or implied this since 9/11: "blowback," for example: if we had only been nicer to Middle-Eastern peoples and cultures, none of this would have occurred.

People like bin Laden and all those hopelessly-ethnocentric, fundamentalist-Islamic fanatics in the world who refuse to integrate in places like Germany, Britain, and Holland will be satisfied with nothing less than an Islamic planet.

The cosmetic change Muskens proposes is nonsense and, even if inacted and practiced, would change nothing.

I disagree.

Blowback, as I understand it, is not putting your head in the hornets nest.

If we combined the idea of blowback (non-intervention) with a sensible immigration policy (meaning absolutely 0 muslims permitted to enter Western nations. Not One.) we would not have muslim terrorism.
