i am having a few problems with the train website Rolling Eyes http://www.hyperdia.com/ i'm pretty sure the JR 7day railpass excludes travel on the nozomi trains, but when i try to plan my journey from hakata to tokyo, there doesn't seem to be another train running.
how have others made it from hakata to tokyo by train?

Try the original source: http://www.japanrailpass.net/eng/en001.html

No, you cant use 'nozomi' trains. I wouldn't bother with the more expensive green line either. Some snooty Indian travellers on the platform refused to talk to me, because I was only ordinary class. (Hikari or Kodoma). Probably because of their caste system?

Yes, you can get to Tokyo (& back) from Hakata, using Hikari / Kodoma series trains. I did so in 2006.

There are many hikari trains...one every hour from hakata if I remember correctly..

the only differences are you have to get off at osaka and get on another train to go to tokyo whereas the noizomi are straight through...also you stop at maybe 3 or 4 more stations.

it still goes just as fast

Japan is looking like a better and better option for Chuseok Holidays. I just can't find any flight to where I want to go anywhere at all around that time.
