I've had my bike for two years (Judd 125cc). It's got 2700km on the odometer. I've regularly changed the oil and bought new batteries when the old ones died (they die out quickly if you don't ride in winter....I learned that the hard way), but that's about it. Other than putting some air in the tires, I haven't touched anything else.

Should I be worried about anything else at this stage of the game? Filters, spark plugs, fuel pumps, alternators, etc.?

Cheers in advance. Smile

Well, does it have any problems? Heres's a short list for you to check.

1) Do the brakes work without squealing? If you can hear "metal-on-metal " sound get them replaced. Are the brakes sensitive enough? If not, get them adjusted.
2) If tires are too worn get a set of new tires. This is especially important if you plan to drive on a wet road.
3) Air filter should be replaced.
4) Spark Plug should be replaced as well.
5) If you haven't replaced transmission oil for 2 years, have it replaced asap.
6) How's the suspension? Any oil leaks? Are the coils/springs tired already?
7) Get a new oil filter and "fuel filter." These take away impurities like sand, dirt and possible metal particles.
8 ) Do all the lights and other electric devices work?
9) Can you see any rust? If a problem get it fixed or replaced.
10) Oil or grease the joints.
11) If the engine is pillowing a lot of visible smoke the gasket may need to be replaced.
12) Can you hear any "rattling sound" while revving up or driving? Find where it comes from and tighten the bolt(s).
13) How's the muffler? All exhaust is coming out from the right place?
14) Is engine responsive to the throttle? Have you lost any power?

There's a short list for you to start. If you have more questions I'll try to help. Take care!

Additional things:

1. Get the brakes checked (quick and easy) to make sure the pads are not in need of replacing (usually, they make noise when they do).

2. Replace or clean the air filter (yearly or at 6 months if you ride a lot)

Other than changing the oil ever 500km, and oil filter every 3rd oil change, and doing those things, just ride it and have them check out any odd noises, etc.

Be careful not to spray around the bearings in the wheels with a power water jet too much. I did that on my old Yamaha, and cleaned the grease right out of the bearnings. Had to get them replaced.

Everything seems fine. No strange noises or behaviors. That's why I'm not sure what I should or must replace. Sounds like I need new transmission fluid no matter what? And new air filter/spark plugs? I'm not even sure if this bike has a fuel filter.

My experience is with cars. You want to replace brake pads and brake shoes before they wear away the disks or drums.

Checking the pads on disk brakes is easy. How do I check the shoes on the drum brake?

How do I know when the belt needs to be replaced? I don't know how many kilometers are on this belt.

If you're talking about the timing belt, that would usually need to be replaced around 160,000km.

Two stroke motor scooters do not have timing belts. Timing belts are used instead of timing chains on four stroke engines with overhead cams. Most newer cars have them. The 160,000 km sounds about right for a small car.

The belt I'm talking about is in the automatic transmission of the motor scooter. My odometer is not original and even if it were I don't know when the belt was last replaced.

I have a spare sparkplug and a spare lightbulb. The guy told me 10,000 km on the spark plug.

I thought you were referring to a car! We were talking at cross-purposes for a minute there.

So, when would that transmission belt need to be replaced (on a moped)?

My Matiz calls for a timing belt change at 90,000 Km. I thought that was quite low, but I went ahead and did it anyway, as part of regular maintenance.

Go to a local moped/motorbike maintenence place. Say "oil change-ee". The adjoshi will nod and motion you away. Come back in an hour. Pay him 5000 to 10000 won. Repat every other month. They adjust the chain, they change the oil, usually change the filter, check for problems. It's so cheap that it's more than worth it.

That won't work on a two-stroke with a belt drive.

OK. The OP has a four stroke but no chain. Maybe the adjoshi will check other stuff and maybe he won't. My local guy doesn't seem to check anything unless I point things out to him.
