|
|
My wife and I were on the bus and the news was on the radio. After one story my wife turned to me and said that the reporter said that in 2009 the Bank of Korea will issue KW 50,000 and KW 100,000 bills. OK, finally no more carrying around all those KW 10,000 notes. But then I got to thinking, "Hmm, who will be on the new bills? Will Sejong move up? If so, who will replace him on the KW 10,000 bill?"
Any ideas?
I think the turtle ship 장군 이순신 on the KW 50,000 bill |

I hope it's Park Chung Hee and Chun Doo Hwan.
If not them, then these two.

i actually assign this as a writing/art project - i photocopied a bunch of 10,000 won bills, wrote in a 5 and whited out the areas where the national symbol, the historical place and the face of the famous korean would go.
then i let the kids draw in what they think should go there, and write why they should go there. also, i get them to say why having a 50,000 won bill is a good idea.
a lot of kids choose yoo-gwan-soon - which i think would be cool, a 15 year old girl on a banknote. |

Good question- maybe they'll put Sejong on the new bills too?
Actually, they should put General MacArthur on it. He did save the country after all (no need to tell me this would never happen- I'm not this ignorant of the Korean mindset). |

Kimgu will be on one of those bills for sure. The other one might be the scientist dude from long ago or the female activist from japanese annexation period. |

Hines Ward!!!!! Too bad he's a Steeler. I wish he'd go to a team with a decent Quarterback. Can you imagine Hines lining up across from Marvin Harrison and having Peyton Manning throwing him the ball? |

The BoK is having a contest. They really want a woman on one of the bills. It's probably going to be that SamIl chick and another man (probably for the 100,000). The leading contender is some king who ruled over that butt hole China has been claiming was a vassal kingdom of China. Ah, k-pride. Let's rename Korea based on an urban legend. Let's slap some ancient king to stick it to the Chinese.
I did see in Hywhwa today some people lobbying for Dosan, some anti colonial guy. |

Whoever they put on the bill, they should check and make sure that they actually graduated from the uni they claim. |

I agree, it seems it's been mostly women who have been caught or come out as the fraudsters, though this one famous Buddhist monk recently confessed to lying about attending Seoul National University. |

Who does the yangpa? He should do something like
"Korean historians admit King Sejong had no advanced degree from an American University" |
