What cities do you potentially and realistically see yourself living in over the next five years?
(You can add a 'why' to it as well if you want)... |

But def. not back to Blighty, except for hols, and Marmite buying expeditions. |

If u have $, Ashland, Ore. is about the most beautiful small town I've ever lived in.
Clear air & water, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, nice NoCal weather, kind people. It's gorgeous, pure and simple. Only 20,000 pop. but very cosmopolitan feel.
Eugene is a pure college town. A little wetter. City revolves around the Oregon Ducks.
Portland is the No. 2 green city in the world but it rains a lot and the wind is bone chilling at times. |

That's an interesting one. I've always wanted to go to Ethiopia and Eritrea, but the ESL scene seems real low pay. NGO work looks real lucrative though. |

Despite being among the ugliest cities of Korea, it has a strange appeal to it, doesn't it? |

Tiger Beer, I saw your post on thorntree about Doha. I am in Doha right now. It is hot and hazy and not really that exciting. It's okay to visit, but living here would be a different story. |

Toronto: Ease of job offers.
Vancouver: I don't mind rain, I don't mind the lack of snow and heat.
Calgary: More American. I like that.
Seattle: Friend has a company there. Might be able to swing a job and H1B/TN visa with him one day. |

I did make some inquiries on Qatar, UAE, etc. about ESL university jobs. From what I gather, the pay isn't really that great - just slightly better than Korea, but much less vacation time - which I suppose would mean you'd save more. Seems best for those who have kids in school - as they pay for international schools for the kids, etc. In other words, I basically wrote the region off. I'd go crazy-mad with travel if I were couped up in a region like that where I have no real physical interest to be.
I also have two long-time friends, one who went to Bangkok and one who went to Beijing. Somehow they both ended up making $2,000/month in these countries where supposedly that wasn't possible to do. So now I'm under the impression to make things work where you want them to work, and don't waste time living in the places you aren't long-term interested in on some level. |
