At this moment I am listening to:

Frogs and crickets

The blues bar across the steet

Occasional cars

Less occasional but noisier Harleys.

I'm at my daughter's in Champaign, Illinois, sitting out on the porch in the cool evening.

Asa, America has a few good things going for it.

Oops, now there are sirens. . .

The White Stripes - Little Cream Soda

They make me feel proud of Detroit. Without them we would be left with Kid Rock and Uncle Kracker. *shudder*

Morton Feldman - String Quartet (II)

This will suck up the next 5 hours of my life. I can honestly say I don't know a better way to spend them. There are no words.

The immortal Jean Shepherd.

http://www.shep-archives.com/netjuke/pl-edit.php?do=edit&pl_id=310

Specifically, I am listening to: 1970 10 xx Nome at the moment.

He is philosophizing about traveling, and the importance of sounds. He tapes sounds when he travels, and he plays some during this show.

He is the author behind the movie A Christmas Story.

Here is one of programs that was the basis of this story:

1964 12 26 Early BB Gun

There is nothing more American than Jean Shepherd.

For those of you who are not American, his shows are an archive of American culture.

He seems to be just ranting at random, but he always ties it all together in the end.
