I have to take my run. Most Busan Cats play it safe and easy on the Fukoaka ferry but I hear Fukoaka is a bit of a bore and, after all, I have a couple dollars saved up. What are my options? I have to go by the 23rd.

Do you have a week or so to do the visa run?

I've been to Fukuoka 3 times and it just gets better and better (for me). If you don't want to get stuck in town, and you have a week or so, take a 5 day Kyushu rail pass, it is about $180 and it is excellent value.

They do have charming stewardesses on the Kyushu bullet train, you can buy a rail pass from any travel agent and you validate the pass when you take your first train trip in Kyushu. there is not as much English spoken in Kyushu as there is in a lot of parts of Korea, but the stewardesses will take a souvenir photo of you holding a special shinkansen sign. There is only one shinkansen/bullet line and it doesn't stretch all the way - not even half - but the regular lines north of the shinkansen and the east-west lines all pass through great looking country, the shinkansen wooshes through tunnels and much of the landscape on the shinkansen route is concealed behind screens along the track.

kangsan sells hte rail pass. www.kangsantravel.com. You CANNOT buy it after you get to Japan.

We went ot Kyoto in February and LOVED it. We thoguht it wouldn't be that exciting since we've lived in Korea for so long, but we were wrong. Kyoto is very different and a great tourist town. Osaka has a Korean consulate and is only about an hour away by train or less.

I've also down a visa run to Bangkok.

However, if you have to go by the 23rd, then I would plan based on where you can get available tickets. It's still summer travel season and everything will probably be pretty booked.
