Hello,
Has anyone gone to Palawan province in the Philippines, specifically Coron? I'm looking for cheap beach front bungalows or huts or something like that. Most of the places I found are either in town or the water they're on isn't really swimmable. Any other advice would be welcome, as well.
Thanks. |

I have been to Puerto Princesa and El Nido in Palawan. Gorgeous - absolutely plan to go again!
I haven't been to Coron YET. I plan to next time I get to Palawan.
Look up Busuanga Island near Coron. During the Marcos dicatorship, they brought 8 different large species of African mammals and placed them on that island. Giraffes, Gazeles, etc. I've seen a few pictures, and that island looks a bit like the Serengheti! It's bizarre! |

TB,
Me and the old lady figure that Palawan - El Nido - is the most pristine tropical destination we've been to. And we've been all over Southern Thailand and Malaysia. It's isolated but it is pristine.
Snorkelling in El Nido is like swimming in a fish tank - and the coral is so beautiful, unlike Thailand where it's all brown, broken and damaged.
We talk about doing another trip to Palawan.
One thing we noted was that those small flights suck. A little scarey. |

Thanks for your advice. Unfortunately, all flights to El Nido for the dates we wanted were booked. We're off to Coron area and found a beautiful little resort thing on its own island nature preserve. Little huts on stilts with hammocks. Perhaps most importantly, there are wild monkeys walking all over the place. And about a bijillion different tropical birds, not to mention the snorkelling options. Did I mention the monkeys?
I did read about that African nature preserve as well. Our time is limited, so I'm not sure if we'll make it there (I'll wait till the real thing in Botswana...soon I hope).
I was a bit disappointed with Thailand, but I hear Palawan is pretty much un-touched. This is going to be fantastic, thanks for your help. |

Has anyone been to PORT BARTON or CORON?
Those are high on my list to visit in Palawan after having seen El Nido.
Mr.BlackCat, when is your Coron trip? |

I'm going over Chuseok. Very short, but that's what I get for wasting my longer vacation in Phuket (no offense to Phuket, but this looks so much better). I intend on keeping the monsoons away with morning anti-rain dances. Hey, it worked in Thailand. |
