|

Hi,
As the heading would suggest I'm wondering if it's too late to apply for public school positions in September. I've applied to a couple of recruiters but haven't heard back yet. How do you rate my chances? I know I'm pushing it for time but I've got all the documents already and I've been to Korea before so I don't need to prepare quite as much.
So, what do you think? |

won't be a problem i'm sure...you'll probably just have to do a visa run when you arrive...i know there are still lots of positions available... |

Many teachers & recruiters are on holidays. One of the Korean teachers at my old Public School doesn't return until 26 August. I haven't heard back yet either for an expression of interest for a job in Busan.
Last time I looked, there were 20,000 vacancies & only 8,000 native speakers. You'll get a job. |

Take your time too. The school's will rush you and try to get you to come ASAP. Don't fall for that. Give yourself a week or 2 to get everything together. |

Well I got a call from one of the recruiters last night and she said she wants me here by sunday. There's no way I could sort everything out by then (selling all my stuff etc). Do different public schools open on quite different dates?
If a public school can't find someone in time they would just keep looking right? They wouldn't just give up the search just because they couldn't find someone by the first day of school, right? |

Right. I came into my school 2 weeks after the school started. It doesn't matter when you come in. They just want you as soon as possible. Just boo your flight on the day you think you'll be ready. Also, prepare for a VERY long flight. They will expect you to come to work the very next day, so I would plan on your flight to land in Korea on a Friday afternoon/evening/night. That way, hopefully you'll have a weekend before you actually start school on Monday. |

I thought arriving on Friday night was a mess. I had to stay in a hotel until the school was open on Monday. I would have rather arrived on a weekday and moved all my stuff in my apartment. An official met me on Saturday and made sure everything was taken care of until Monday so it was more of a hassle for him than me.
I'm about 3 hours from Seoul so I would have rather arrived late Thursday night and then gone to my school Friday morning to move in and meet everyone. Then I could have unpacked over the weekend. |

Hey guys,
I just wanted to ask if you guys think its best to wait a bit before accepting a contract because of the break, and if so till when? Im looking for a job in Daigu. I've been offered 2.0M for 40 hrs a week by what seems like a good private school, havent been able to find much better than that.
Thanks for any help.... |

A public school will pay you 2 million won for 20 hours work a week. Keep looking. |

I just got off the phone with a recruiter who claimed there are no public school positions left in Daigu - which is where my buddies are going. Anyone have any idea if this is true??
Thanks

You could try Rowan Hall of ESL PLANET recruitment agency, but they only look after placements in the Seoul / Gyeonggido area. They may have contacts in other parts of Korea though. He placed me in a Public School in Paju, northern Gyeonggido. No complaints whatsover. Very professional.
