I had the same problem last year, & couldn't find any cheap flights. I ended up getting the KTX to Busan, & catching the hydrofoil to Hakata in Japan, instead.

That might be me.

I just looked again. NOTHING! There is a ticket to AFRICA for 800,000 which I jumped on! But the connection to Hong Kong doesn't exist! If anyone else is planning to go anywhere in Africa anytime from now to November, look into it! (If that HK flight opens up, I might actually do it myself for 9 days!)

I spent an hour at the travel agent on Saturday and there isn't much to choose from. I managed to get flights to Taipei. There were still flights to Hanoi but the timing wasn't the best, some places in the rest of China were still available.

You were lucky with the Taipei ones. I looked for that today, and nothing available now.

They recommended that I just take a ferry over to Japan... Confused

The hydrofoil / ferry to Japan runs several times daily from Busan (if not hourly). Just get the ticket at Busan Port. Check the "Beetle" website for more info.

I spoke to a travel agent and she said all the tickets for cheosok were sold out but what do you reckon the chances of turning up on the mroning of the 22 septmeber and getting a ticket at Busan port being that its the start of Cheosok and that.

Anyone done it before?

Try clicking vacant seat review:

https://www.jrbeetle.co.jp/ships2e/sp2p/index.html

There are plenty of seats still available for Tuesday 25 September. The KJ204 (08:45 am) is sold out, KJ 208 (09:30 am) has seats, KJ210 is sold out, (10:00am) JF 232 is sold out, (14:30 pm), & JF 234 (15:00pm) has seats available in ordinary class.

All of Monday 24 September Beetle seats are sold out. I would waitlist, & hope for a cancellation / double booking. Tel: 092 281 2315 (Add Japan country code). Or contact the Busan Port Office. (Telephone Busan Port {82} 51 465 6111 for seat availability.)

If you go on Friday 21 September, seats are still available for the 3pm boat, 2:30pm, 10am, 9:30am & 9am boats. Only the JF218 at 12:15pm is sold out. Saturday 22 Sept & Sunday 23 Sept are both grim though, with all seats sold out. Again, I would ring & waitlist.

I noticed that a few days before summer holiday, trips and flights were being advertised so you might see things available a few days before Chuseok. Xanadu has stuff available if your willing to spend money. I would love to go to Hong Kong or Tokyo myself, but it might be better to get a cheaper flight in the winter if your contract ends in the winter allowing you to spend more time out there in the world. I could go to Thailand, Cambodia, or Hong Kong for 4 days, but it's better if you can go for several weeks to get the most for your money though it would be nice to get a break from Korea and do other interesting things right now.

I've been to Darjeeling. Atm machines had armed guards outside them, & only allow one person in at a time. If you have money, you can live & travel well. I was surprised to see luxury aircon busses to Kolkata in Siliguri bus stn. There is a marked polarisation of rich & poor. Same as China.

I'm thinking of either The Philippines or Japan.

Can't believe people are still finding tickets!!

I've given up for now. I'll try later as people cancel their reservations.
