What is the latest you have been paid? I'm still waiting on July, and everyday is a different excuse. Six months in, and I have never been paid on time. How common is this?

Get out while the going is good. Plenty of hagwons here need teachers. I've only been paid late once, probably as a result of having done just the one hagwon contract.

Have not been paid late in years. Show them who is boss. Make sure you find a good school. It will come with time grasshopper.

Yeah, these things happened when I first got here but I thought those days had passed. You should find out why you are being paid late and then decide on your next move.

There's no point freaking out about it right now but if moving to another school feels like a good option then start looking around. You'll need to plan things out properly to get your letter of release.

I am in the same boat as you, I have only gotten paid on time once in an entire year of service to my slave lord. My advice to you is to stand your ground each and every time that your pay is late. Find out why, demand answers and be relentless, if that doesn't work then leave.

Best of Luck

In all my time in Korea-- both in hakwons and working for EPIK -- only been paid late 2x.... Both of those working for EPIK. Not regular pay, mind you, but late on reimbursement for air ticket (very late -- like 1 month) and late on pay for summer camp. I think I was lucky with my hakwons, though...

Twenty four hours late, once. When there was no pay envelope for me on the end of payday I told her that she had until the end of classes the next day to pay me before I stopped teaching.

She never tried it again with me, but she did keep paying the Korean teacher a week or two late every month.

If you still haven't been paid for last month it's time to take a stand, OP, before it becomes cheaper for your boss to replace you with a new teacher than pay you what she owes you.

I think 3 weeks was the longest I had to wait. My boss gave me some BS sob story about how she had to loan her mother $30,000 or something crazy. Get this, she actually asked ME to loan her $8,000 because she didn't want to send her money back to the states (where her mother was) and launder the money

I think that I've been paid late twice, and it was only by one day. When it happened, my director wouldn't stop apologizing.

How many students do you teach? Go in and demand it and tell them never to be late again.

yeah, my boss actually asked me to loan him money once too. He didn't give a reason, just said he needed the money. I am a little concerned. I have thought of quitting.

I'm still waiting for my last months pay from my last hogwon. I left at the end of September last year and the owner didn't have the money to pay me. Then I went to the labor board and they gave him until the end of May to pay me. Well he still didn't my me my last months salary, bonus, and severence. So how it has been turned over to the prosecuter's office.
