It's now official. In China you can no longer reincarnate at will.
"In one of history's more absurd acts of totalitarianism, China has banned Buddhist monks in Tibet from reincarnating without government permission. According to a statement issued by the State Administration for Religious Affairs, the law, which goes into effect next month and strictly stipulates the procedures by which one is to reincarnate, is "an important move to institutionalize management of reincarnation."
There goes my ambition to become a yeti.

I can see their point- they've probably had too many monks queuing to be reincarnated as bureaucrats. |

I wonder what the actual text of the new law is. Perhaps it specifically addresses living monks and prohibits them from seeking anyone in China to be declared the reincarnation of a past lama.
Anyway, the Communist Party is proving yet again its highest goal is stupidity. |

Luckily for these monks, not a single one of them will break this law. |

This has to be the funniest unintentional news article I've ever read:
- the Communist Party of China is supposed to be atheistic. Why would they legislate against something they claim is metaphysically impossible?
- you can't legislate people from re-incarnating, even if it is true.
Didn't either of these points come up during the debate? Ah, gotta love communists- fighting a war against reaon and logic. |

A few years down the road, I'm expecting something along the lines of this dialog to take place:
Monk: We've located the next Dalai Lama. His name is Ralph.
CP Official: Hmmm, OK, let me see here in the official files if Ralph registered for permission to reincarnate....Ummm, sorry. Nope. No Ralph in our records.
Monk: Of course not. His name wasn't Ralph then. It was Clyde. Look under the C's.
CP Official: Oh! You're right. Here's Clyde.
Monk walking out of the office: Tee hee hee. |

I'm trying to work things out so I can come back as a dog who has a lot time to post on the internet, like Superfly. That would be sooo cool.

I was watching a documentary about a problem in Tibet regarding reincarnation (I can't recall what channel...heck, English OR Korean even), but they (Tibetan monks/officials) were discussing the problem with the all-of-a-sudden surge in reincarnations.
Almost to the point where they were trying to weed out the shysters.
So, maybe them thar Chinese folk are genuinely attempting to aid the Tibetans
!shoosh,

If you outlaw re-incarnations, then only outlaws will have them. |

That would require that you have fewer friends, which, in your case is difficult since you're a popular ladies man-club-hopping-playboy. No soup for you. |

I was seriously considering relocating to China the next time around. I figure China is the up and coming happnin place, and the States are on the way out. In 50 years or so the States are going to be nowheresville.
But now I am going to have to look elsewhere. I wouldn't want to reincarnate where I'm not wanted.
I wonder if there are any reincarnation-friendly countries? |

Good question.
As India is the home of reincarnation, as it were, it may be more reincarnation-friendly than China.
Does anyone have any info on the status of foreigners reincarnating into India? Most importantly, can we reincarnate close to the top, or do we have to start at the bottom and work our way up? |
