Was curious as to what channels you recieve with Korean cable Tv. Do you get sports channels. How many of the channels are in English?

we were wondering the same thing - we could do with an extra english movie channel or perhaps animal planet and national geographic. The only "english" channels we have are discovery, on style, story on, ocn and superaction. is there any way to add extra channels for a fee? If so, how much would you pay? Thanx!

Both Lxx and I contacted Skylife, but we got different answers.

I learned that 30,000 per month will give you LOTS of channels, including Disney, BBC Prime, CNN, Discovery, History Channel, MCM channel, and also lots of premium music. The installantion fee is minimal and included in your first month's fees, BUT you have to sign up for a 3 year contract! AND, since you are a foreigner, you must pay 1 year in advance (to protect Skylife in case you go home at the end of your contract without paying)! I was told that the personnel speak English, although I can't verify that.

Call 080-0123-100

Now Lxx, of our Spanish Department, did it differently. He said,
"Hey Rxxx, sorry for the delay, but I was waiting for an answer from Skylife about a question on HD, but they never did... anyways, here's what I did:

first I went to http://www.skylife.co.kr/index.html

there I read about the programming options. After weighing it out, I decided to get the top package, called SkyLife Platinum. It is 30,000 per month, and the cost of the reciever, antenna, and installation was 66,000.

I asked a Korean person to call 1588-302 and register it for me. There is also a downloadble form in english, but with that there is no offer for 66,000 reciever, instead you have to pay the full price of 160,000. The Korean on the phone can ask for the discount.

They came and installed it after a couple of days, and now I have as many channels as possible here in korea.

Notable channels: CNN, BBC, BBC Prime, Nat. Geog, discovery, Animal Planet, Disney, 8 sports channels, a bunch of digital music channels, a bunch of movie channels, and ppv.

If you have an HD TV, it is more costly. There is a very expensive reciever to buy if you want HD broadcasts (costs about 500,000). However, they have an excellent HD channel, that has shows like Lost, Housewives, Without a Trace, Sopranos, ER and Band of Borthers. They have movies, sports, and a lot of other interesting things. You have to pay more for the monthly fee too. (an extra 5 or 6 thousand if you have platinum)

I'm still debating on wether I will buy that HD thing or not..Lxx."

Just stream or bittorrent everything. Unless you really like watching HDTV, there is no reason to spend anything on cable/satellite.

I just got Hana Telecom. Lots of channels, but alas, none in English that I can see (no OCN, Discovery, CNN, etc.). That said, I haven't figured out the cable box completely yet, so maybe I just haven't found the right ones.

I can't be bothered to change, as I was already turned down by Yongsan Cable and LG (wanted 400,000 cash upfront). My landlord is feuding with Skylife, so my options are limited...
