After 까다로운변선생 that's the best corner on the show. Or maybe 대화가 필요해.

Can someone provide context here? New version of the Bubble Sisters, or storm in a teacup?

Yes, how about a bit of context here. I posted on image alone. Would like to know what it says and what the gist of the responses is.

Let's all go to work tomorrow with yellow makeup, Jerry Lewis-style buck teeth, straight black haired wigs with a chisel-shaped bowl underneath, taped eyelids, and thick, black-rimmed glasses.

Storm in a teacup. The program's in a debate format (not a real debate of course because it's comedy), and one of the characters always pretends to be a special guest from another country, but then gives his name as '김덕뱁니다' after the interview's over. He's played a French woman, a Maori guy, a high school student (that's the one in the picture), and some others I don't remember.

Here's the video:

Lots of people put it up on their blogs because he blurted out 갈매기아빠 for some reason instead of 기러기아빠.

The great irony is that Koreans themselves can be pretty dark skinned ...

Do they sub-consciously hate themselves and this is how they deal with?

I don't understand how you drew this out of the OP. The comedian didn't intend to specifically mock black people or anything. Refer to Mithridates' post. He plays any character whose name is so unlikely to be 김덕배 (a funny Korean name) and later after all the talking, he says he's 김덕배. What about when he played a white french woman? Let's say he wore quite pale makeup and a blonde wig. Would anyone take it as an issue equally?

Whats your point?

In the US, Blacks can make fun of white people and its comedy. When white people try to make fun of Blacks, its racism.

Don't you just love Western culture and its Double Standards?

I guess they still need legislation because people are still so racist?

Wow..get over it folks..this seems like harmless comedy and as mith pointed out..it seems to be just that.

Ever see a just for laughs gala in Canada...black guys make fun of white people, some make fun of China and so on...it is all about context folks...

Homer and Doggyji, I don't think the other posters are commenting due as much to the comedy as the blackface. Putting on a blond wig might be the same as putting on an afro wig, but blackface is a different thing. People everywhere wear wigs to goof off, especially afro wigs - the two are the same.

What's more, Doggyji, seeing as how The Bubble Sisters, Hines Ward, and several other "incidents" have all been discussed on this board - and also by the vaunted "netizens" you have variously mentioned - I have to wonder how you can make such statements. Do you really believe that the overall attitudes towards blacks (among Koreans) is the same as their's towards whites? Or that the two are even close?

How lame to suggest that a white guy who might have painted his face yellow, put in exagerrated buck teeth, and taped his eyes to appear narrow, would not raise a stink in Canada. And surely you know that the depiction I describe above is the equivalent of blackface. You're a much bigger apologist than Doggyji on this board, which is a shame because when you do have valid points they get lost in your other nonsense.

I'm not up on the intricacies of the blackface controversy in America - I thought it was the fact that the blackface was crude and exaggerrated COUPLED with the stereotypical, derogatory actions of the wearer?

Are all attempts for non-blacks to impersonate blacks these days taboo, even if, as in the the picture, the "blackface" is relatively.....I don't want to say well done, but realistic? Doesn't it depend on what that guy is saying?

I'm not trying to defend the use, I'm trying to figure out the level of sensitivity about it - it's quite interesting, the limits on impersonation we have in certain areas, and not others. What if I tried to impersonate a single, famous black guy, like Bob Marley, for instance?

And where does White Chicks fit into all of this?
