Hi there,
This is not and i hope does not comes over as givening up or bitching about Korea. I just think I am done. (even though I have been here only 8 months)
I have been living in rural city just outside of Suwon. Good thing is I think I seen and learnt quickly about the korean culture, the soju night's and soju Korean's. Yes 8 months and not many friends I tried very hard but i am coming to understand here that its a social stigma to be with me. Or if they are they kinda wanting something of me. Plus being British, I am used to your "word is your bond". Can get frustrating at times when plans are made then it changes on the day or the hour. But all in all its been learning curve, a cultural lesson. But there seems nothing for me to stay on, ie friendship, or this place. As nothing really wows me in this country. All seems to be the same.
SO I need advice from you all, where next for me, i'd like to choose an asian country where i can be wowed abit, by the culture, scenary and build some friendship. ( ie people are normal meeting all types of people.) money is not too much of important. Just like to learn more not just drink. So what your advice where's next for me?
Please no bitching, lol. Just ask for some kind advice.
Iam sure some of you understand.
thanks

Koreans are hard to have relationships with. On any level..in my opinion. They're just problematic- as friends, girlfriends or coworkers. Really hard going.
The uber-transitory nature of life here is also a source of difficulty in forming stable or deep friends.
Korea is tough. A little bit too hard on the soul sometimes.
Next destination? Depends on your priorities. Money or quality of life? |

If money isnt important... the real question we should be asking is why did you come to korea in the first place?
In your situation... and especially since you no doubt have an EU passport, I'd be headed to Spain or France... pay in those places isnt good but fun level is high.
Dont feel bad, btw... the vast majority of non-koreans who come to korea feel exactly the way you do, to varying degrees, and leave shortly thereafter....
Still, even though you said money isn't important.. doesnt it make alot of financial sense to just stick it our a few more months? |

I would go ahead and stick it out 4 more months. On where to go next?
Do you want to teach English? If so, what countries or parts of the world interest you? If money or pay is not a concern, there are in my estimates, well over 50 countries you can go to. If you want to volunteer just to get interesting life experiences, then bring that figure to well over 100 countries. Personally, if I was wealthy, I would volunteer in many countries and just become an anthropologist who enjoys the finer sides of life here and there. In fact, if it were not for my student loans, I would just consider myself on a global journey to experience life from many perspectives through teaching and volunteering in many countries since I believe having kids is probably not going to be something I do which is not so strange in our generation. All this travel and cultural fun could be done all while managing your money in cash, stocks, funds, etc. via the internet about maybe 5 hours a week to earn your income through dividend, capital gains, and interest payments. Heck, if you got $1 million US in an HSBC online savings account, you get $50,500 in interest payment a year! That would be sweet to just enjoy life on I tell you. If you got it going on in the finance department, go enjoy life, but be smart about it. |

If Aung San Suu Kyi says "Please don't go to Burma", then Burma probably shouldn't be gone to. |
