As of now any one who was hired as an E.P.I.K. teacher and is currently
working in Gyeonggi do will no longer be contracting with the Suwon office of education. You will be given the opportunity to join your local school .

Isn't GEPIK, basically like EPIK but for schools in Gyeonggi province?

EPIK is all schools in Korea that do not have special designation by district right?

So it doesn't include Seoul, Gangnam, Kungnam, etc.

My understanding is that Epik is the standard public school contract, shared by multiple recruiters, administered through the local POE to the local school.

I am with GEPIK as well. And it covers middle schools. I teach middle school and receive regular communication from the GEPIK coordinator. Is GEPIK being phased out? Is there a decent link to an article on this?

I'm going to give Fishead soup the benefit of the doubt and only speak to the original post.

It makes sense. I don't work with EPIK and I don't know any EPIKers in Gyeonggi-go, so I don't know the EPIK contract. The GEPIK contract is between the principal and the teacher (before anyone pipes up, go back and read the contract - it is "between the Principals in the respective schools of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education" and the employee). If EPIK contracts don't already say that, maybe they should.

I say maybe because it's moot - a contract between employee and principal is the same as a contract between employee and the POE. The principal is a POE officer, and so are the teachers.

So if the op is accurate, it's a change that makes sense only because it words things in such a way that is more transparent to a western teacher. You can't have a contract with a public school in Korea that's not governed by the POE, no matter how the contract is worded - even if you are not with GEPIK, EPIK or SMOE.
