What's the best way for a civilian to travel to Osan base from Seoul?
Thank you |

| You can take the express bus to the base. You can also take line 1 on the metro all the way down to Osan. Depending on your proximity to line 1, the subway may or may not be more convenient. Once you get to Osan station or Osan terminal, just ask a cab driver to take you to the base, shouldn't cost more than a few bucks. |

| I can't speak to the "best" way, but I know there is an Osan subway stop. One of the dark lines, either 1 or 5. |

Osan AB is actually not at Osan stop on the subway ... you're better off going to Songtan. Take a cab from there. |

Does this depart from Dong Seoul station? |

Like I said, I couldn't speak to the "best" way. Never been to Osan, I just knew the subway went down that way. |

| Line 1 does have a downtown stop at Seoul Station if that's what you're talking about. Take it in the direction of Cheonan/Incheon, NOT Soyosan. When you get to Guro Station, there's a fork in the line, with line 1 going in two directions. Get off at Guro and switch to the line 1 branch marked for Cheonan. Then just sit back, relax, and wait for Osan station. I think Songtan station, a little further down, might actually be nearer to the base. Do you know someone on base who could tell you which subway station in the Osan cluster of stations is closest? |

I don't think there is a BEST way unfortunately. It's not a straight-away easy place to get to.
There is a bus, but it goes from the Gangnam area - one of those bus stations - fine if you live in that area, but it would take me 45 minutes by subway to get to that bus station from where I'm at in Seoul.
Subway goes down there, but it takes a long time. I've done it before a few times.
You can go to the train station and take a faster train to say Pyeongtaek, but then you have to use the subway to slowly get back up to Songtan. I've done that as well.
Whatever you do, its time-consuming to get to. |

| On the subway trains heading south on line 1, be aware that some trains stop at Byoungjom and do not contain further south. Ensure that you either get a Chonan bound train or alight at byoungjom and wait for the next train. |

| Can anyone here tell me where the bus station in Gangnam is that leaves to the U.S. Osan Military base? I don't have the lonely planet guidebook- and have to go to the base tomorrow and have no idea how to get to this bus terminal. Thanx. |

Nambu Terminal. It's on line 3 near Yangjae. |

Buses for SONGTAN leave every 20 minutes from Nambu terminal, cost about W3,500 I believe. Trip takes about 1 hour give and take.
You'll have no trouble hailing a cab from the Songtan bus terminal and it will probably only cost you W2,000 to get to the base. It's not even a 10-minute walk from the bus station to the main gate. |
