hey, alright....i had only 9 days off for summer and I have summer camp the whole month of august AND i do not get extra pay for it (I do get paid my usual monthly salary).
I work at an elementary school in paju and was wondering if other teachers are in the same situation i am. Seems like the teachers I talk to get paid EXTRA plus they have a long vacation and only a 2 week summer camp. |

Wow, only 9 days off. That's exactly how it works in hagwons, but since you're in public school you are not getting as much as others on here claim to be getting. |

I got 14 days off total. I worked a two week camp. I taught 6 classes a day for a total of thirty hours. Subtracting my contracted 22 hours I get 8 hours o/t for each week.
I recieved full salary for the month.
I haven't figured out if that was my contracted 14 days paid vacation.
I also missed out on the 8/15 holiday, I'm still negotiating a comp day for that.
My contract stated 2 weeks summer camp. |

I'm at a middle school and will finish my 4 week English camp tomorrow.
I'm pretty sure that the only way that you will get paid on top of your regular salary is if the students pay. My camp was free so I didn't get anything extra

During the winter, I did 2 English camps -- each 5 days long -- and got around 200,000 extra for each.
I was told that teachers who are asked to do a camp at their own school wont get paid, but if those teachers go to a camp at different school, some funds exist to pay them
During the winter, for the other 6+weeks I wasnt doing any camps or other teaching, I got paid my regular salary...
The policy might have changed in my province about pay for English camps this summer. They may have decided not to pay extra anymore. However, in my specific case, I was being asked to work 2 Saturdays and take part in an overnight camping trip. I refused to do this if I wasnt being paid, since such excesses are not required by my contract, and the result was that I was paid very very well...
But I heard some horror stories about people being forced to do camps at other schools with no pay, etc... I think the situation for this is going downhill and its another reason i'm glad Im not staying.
After the camp, I had 3 weeks off from any kind of teaching whatsoever.
You cant compare this situation to that of a hakwon.
For EPIK, I got 2 months off from any kind of work.
At the 2 hakwons i've worked at, I got either 10 days or 2 weeks.... and that really did suck.
If you must come to Korea, go EPIK. |

I had my 7 days holiday. These did not include weekends or the public holiday, so my total (covering 2 weekends and 1 PH) was 12 days where I was not at school.
For the rest of the time I was given a painful buggering by my VP. 2 classes each day of 80 minutes. One started at 9am, the other started at 3pm. I did not recieve extra pay.
Thankfully, my principal took pity on me after the 2nd day and suggested that I should take my time to cook good food. When I then took 2 and a half hours for lunch he made his point even clearer by suggesting I should sleep after I have eaten. For the rest of my summer days I was able to leave at 10:20 and return to open my classroon at 2:50. Not too bad, but I would have preferred the "go away and don't come back for 3 weeks" that some other people had the luxury of. |

You should be getting paid something. Inquire thrice with your co-teacher.
I knew a lady who wasn't paid for her winter vacation camp and asked to be paid after she discovered other public school NTs were paid. She eventually got paid.
If you say nought only the admin. head will be happy as it will be assumed your quite happy to be doing pro bono. Sorry to hear you've been given an unwelcome headache.
As far as vacation time goes the school has a special form which is sent to the POE which requires your signature and states that you are working on teaching materials in the leisure of su casa feliz(you cannot leave the country however unless you've applied for official vacation for a specific period). So, technically your vacation time will seriously expand to the golden four months vacation level provided no camps exist. Ask about it. |

I did a camp this week for a total of ten hours for 300k. Schools can find the loot to pay you and the cheap-skate stuff is an administrator aiming for a position with the POE by proving how he/she elevated stuff productivity and reduced operating expenses(transferred savings into a public kudos project) etc. Keep those ambitious career admin. folks career-climbing-mitts out of your pocket. |

What's in your contract? If it has a clause that you have to work vacation classes, then you ahve no leg to stand on. If it doesn't then, try talking with your school. Don't sign a contract if you dont' want to agree to the terms later. |
