i just read about an ex-cop who killed his girlfriend. i started wondering, what "profession" has the most people that eventually commit murder. I did a quick search, but nothing.
My gut feeling?
Cops.
Any light on this?

Dentistry as a profession has the highest suicide rate and teaching isn't far off in terms of suicide rates so they've got nothing to lose.

The unemployed tend to get up to no good but then again that's not a profession....but nursing leads to unemployment (because of the stressful work load) so I'd say unemployed surgeons (I always thought that to operate on a live body you have to be unnaturally dispassionate or dedicated...so being fired from being a surgeon would definitely twist you up considering it's such a hard job to get in the first place).

I choose b. (Where has the link for the poll gone?)

I think "serial killers" might edge them out, per capita.

My first instincts here would be either postal workers, or air traffic controllers. High stress = nutty people (not all of them I know).

In my hometown, I seem to vaguely recall a postal worker who went.... well postal, and murdered his entire family.

Who knows.

Is being a gang banger a profession?

They do wear uniform colors and report to their leader, who reports to his leader (like a district-manager gangsta), who then reports to the main guy (the gangsta version of a CEO). The people on top make all the money and the people on the bottom of the pyramid make minimum wage. Just like McDonalds.

Cops are certainly most lkely to be able to get AWAY with murder. My gut feeling also says cops, if youcount all the times that urban police shoot and kill someone for no good reason/corrupt reasons/etc... in the line of duty.

If you mean CONVICTED murder rates, than low paying professions have the highest. It's much easier to get convicted of a crime-even one you didn't do--- if you're poor.

My first instinct is cops as well.

I had an interesting drunken conversation with a detective on one occassion, who gave me all the news you could use on how to get away with killing someone.

Nothing more than what you'd see on The Unit, but I always thought it was a good thing, if you're going to kill someone, that NO-ONE knows, or even suspects you were involved. According to this guy the people who do get away with it make sure no evidence gets to court.

There was a case in my hometown where a retired detective turned barmen gunned down a member of a bikie gang, who'd insulted his daughter. Everyone knew it was him, but he knew the tricks to get away with it - things like washing in lime juice to remove traces of gunpowder.

Didn't help him when the bikies blew up his car with him inside.
